Soap signs new deal with Channel 5

Great news, Neighbours fans – Channel 5 has announced a new multi-year deal with FremantleMedia to secure the future of the soap in Britain.

What’s more, as well as staying on Channel 5, the soap will run for 52 weeks of the year from 2018. This means for the first time ever, Neighbours will air over the festive period from 2018.

There will also be a number of annual special episodes airing in prime time and the first of these is earmarked for early next year.

The show’s executive producer, Jason Herbision, said: “I’m excited to keep delivering our worldwide viewers with their daily fix of Ramsay Street. We are proud that our show, set in the Aussie suburbs, has touched the lives of viewers the world over.”

He added: “Just as our characters span generations, so do the people that watch Neighbours – we value our global audiences and are delighted to stay on this journey together. Come the end of 2018 we will also make history by becoming the first Australian drama series to screen all year round. The best is yet to come.”

The iconic Australian soap first transmitted in the UK on October 27, 1986 and has aired on Channel 5 since 2008 with  more than 7,500 episodes produced to date. Neighbours is watched by millions daily, across many international territories, making it the longest running Australian drama and one of the most successful television exports in history.  The much-loved soap has launched the careers of some of the biggest names in show business including; Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Jason Donovan, Holly Valance and many more.

The Dog Rescuers ‘Harder to rehome’ Appeal

Right now, there are thousands of rescue dogs in RSPCA animal centres all desperately looking for forever homes. Many of these dogs have had a bad start in life, but they can still make the most amazing companions – they just need your help to make that happen.

The dogs we will be featuring in upcoming episodes of The Dog Rescuers are some of the RSPCA’s longer stay residents, those that, through no fault of their own, are the hardest to rehome. That might be because they are too large to be comfortable in the average house, perhaps they have special needs due to a disability, or maybe the bond between two dogs rescued from the the same situation is too strong to break up, so they come as a pair.

Could you be the person to finally give these deserving dogs a second chance in life though? Maybe your circumstances are the perfect match for one of these lovely long stayers?

Follow this link to find out who we are trying to rehome and register your interest with the RSPCA;

www.rspca.org.uk/whatwedo/endcruelty/rescue/dogrescuers

With centres across the country and staff that will help you find the perfect four-legged friend, adopting couldn’t be easier. Once you’ve spent time with your new dog, trained staff will visit you and your family at home, discuss any specific needs and make sure your house is suitable.

Taking a rescue dog home is both exciting and rewarding and best of all you will be giving a dog that really needs it – a second chance.

In series 5, we featured a different rescue dog each week, to help try and find them a fantastic new home. You can find out more about the dogs featured in each episode below.

Some are still looking for their forever home but if the dog you were drawn to has since found new owners, please don’t be disappointed because there are plenty more rescue dogs still out there looking for people like you to give them the life they deserve.

My5 TV, the free to air channel, based on the Channel 5 on-demand servic, today announces its first foray into original programming with Comedy Bigmouths from Polymath Media.

The six episode series will consist of topical stand-up comedy and sketches with a live studio audience, using that audience to take the pulse of the country’s mood as they give current affairs a proper going over. The show will be hosted and MC’d by award-winning comedy star and current affairs expert Ian Stone. Well-known guest comedians will also make an appearance including: Zoe Lyons, Geoff Norcott, Ian Moore, Jo Caulfield., Ross Noble, Russell Kane, Clive Anderson and Sarah Pascoe.

Each episode will be up to the point and reactive, much like My5 TV itself. Topics will be based on the talking points of the moment, but we will feature one over-arching subject to run through the show and to challenge opinions during the audience-driven segments.

Toadie and Karl come to London

It’s been 10 years since the residents of Ramsay Street last visited British shores – when Karl and Susan Kennedy rekindled their romance and renewed their vows on the Thames. On Monday March 20th the Channel 5 soap returns to the UK, with London providing an iconic backdrop to a series of gripping episodes guaranteed have fans on the edge of their seats.

Willow and the woman Toadie still thinks is Dee have packed up and left Erinsborough, taking with them the cheque for Willow’s schooling. With a little help from Susan and an emotional call from Willow, Toadie (Ryan Moloney) works out that the pair are headed to London. Having gained reluctant permission from Sonya, he heads to the UK in pursuit, spending his days trying to track them down. Visiting key London landmarks that appear in Willow’s Instagram posts, Toadie eventually locates his daughter, explains he wants her to come back to Ramsay St and offers to speak to her mother to square it with her. But when “Dee” turns up hot on the heels of a disastrous Skype call Toadie has with Sonya, sparks fly…the consequences of which will impact the Ramsay Street residents over the course of the following weeks and months.

The London episodes also feature Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher), who is convinced by wife Susan to head over to London to help his friend see sense and return to his heavily pregnant wife. But when Karl arrives in the UK, he realises he needs to provide far more help than he was anticipating.

The scenes were filmed in London in October 2016 and January 2017 using the Capital City’s iconic landmarks as an additional character to the drama. The production team were keen to feature locations which include Buckingham Palace, The Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and the London Eye, with supplementary scenes filmed in Melbourne.

The London scenes run between Monday March 20th and Friday March 25th.
