Parking fines

/ 8 March 2018

Ticketing on private land in the UK has reached epidemic proportions. New figures from the RAC Foundation show tickets are now being issued at the rate of 17,137 per day; the equivalent of 714 per hour or 12 per minute on private land.

The figures also show that, in total, nearly 10,000 people approached the Citizen’s Advice Bureau for advice on private parking tickets last year and parking firms are issuing almost 13 times more tickets than decade ago.

Motorists should have the certainty that when they enter a car park on private land, they are entering into a contract that is reasonable, transparent and involves a consistent process. Poor signage, unreasonable terms, exorbitant fines, aggressive demands for payment and an opaque appeals process, together with some motorists being hit with a fine for just driving in and out of a car park or private land without stopping, is not acceptable, according the RAC Foundation.
