Bob Geldof: Billy Connolly is as 'strong as an ox'
Billy Connolly is being treated for the "initial symptoms" of Parkinson's Disease.
Comedian Billy Connolly is as “strong as an ox” and will not be "deterred" by the initial stages of prostate cancer and Parkinson’s, his friend Bob Geldof has told Channel 5 News.
Geldof told us: “He’s a great man... He’s a great friend. He’s helped me lots in my endeavours.
“Pam [his wife] and Bill are great mates. He’s as strong as an ox mentally from everything he’s been through as a kid.
“So I don’t think this will deter him from being that individual that we know.”
Connolly’s surgery on the "very early stages" of cancer has been a “total success”, according to his spokeswoman.
She added that he was receiving the “appropriate” treatment for the early symptoms of Parkinson’s.
The health issues will not stop Connolly from filming a TV series and touring New Zealand.
On NewsTalk Live, GP Carol Cooper told us more about the conditions:
