Series 2 - Episode 5: When the Bough Breaks

Episode 5: When the Bough Breaks

Sorry, this episode is no longer available to watch on Demand 5.

Find out why

Castle's book agent has gotten him an offer that would be a dream job and could greatly enhance his career. Signing the offer, however, would mean the end of his relationship with Beckett, as he would have to turn away from Nikki Heat, and both Castle and Beckett are realizing a reluctance to do that, even as they work a case that may be their last... a lonely woman whose body was found tossed down a manhole.

Absolutely furious with Channel 5 over this. Did they not know they'd cut an important final scene off. Didn't know the episode was here in full till now. Come on Channel 5, apologise.

Couldn't agree more with all the above comments - I too was really angry last night when I watched Castle and found the last couple of minutes cut off for yet another of your moronic competitions. Thank heavens for Demand 5 which enabled me to catch up on these CRUCIAL last moments, but like others I was annoyed I had to sit through unskippable ads first! Come on, Channel 5, surely you can do better than this, can't you?!!!

This series is great fun. But Channel 5, please do NOT cut the end off any more episodes of Castle (or indeed any other programmes!) It was disappointing on Friday & extremely rude! Had I not had access to a computer, I wouldn't have any idea how it ended!

When I watched the episode I thought the ending was a bit abrupt, and thanks to everyone I know why! So, thanks everyone. It was a great scene (I couldn't stop smiling) and for channel 5 to omit it is nothing short of scandalous. A massive part of the show for us is their relationship channel 5! So, in future, please treat Castle with the respect it deserves. I have Sky but until Alibi is HD I'll be sticking with your channel.

What the hell?! Ending of last Friday's Castle was ballsed up by this stupid competition, ruined the entire episode and no apology or explanation for the mistake made at all! I think Five don't care for the show as it has no sponsor and if it did, this debacle wouldn't have happened, it's a great show and should be treated with more respect from Five and should be repeated for us fans who you have let down, is this the only place we can complain or is there anywhere else on their website, this isn't the first time they've disrespected a show, show some respect Five, now!

Thanks Mr Moderator. I'll make sure that you get a mention in my email complaint to Customer Services. I may even get ambitious and try and find one of those websites that gives contact details for senior executives and make a complaint direct to the managing director. Way to make somebody who was already angry, really angry!

For those of you who wish to do something other than whinge to others in a forum nobody pays any attention to use the following email address to lodge a formal complaint; customerservices@five.tv By my calculation they cut 2minutes 21seconds of dialogue (and a crucial subplot) from the end of the programme (based on the on demand player timings (they cut the broadcast version at 38:13 and the titles on the on-demand programme started at 40:13).

Fridays broadcast confirmed it - they didn't chop the end off this week by accident, they've done it for a few weeks now. I have all the episodes up to the current broadcast of S4. I watched episodes 1, 2 and 4 on Five and was thinking "I'm sure there was more of an ending than that." The average episode of Castle runs for 43 minutes. Yet Five still insist on chopping out two and a half minutes to run a competition. And then wonder why people choose to watch via iTunes or other online sources.

You don't seem to want to respond to bad comments, so why bother to run a player when it frequently does not work?

P.S. @ ShivasEye. I already used the contact button and emailed them and received an automated email advising they would reply back in 7-10 days - if at all, and they would not reply if the answer is in their FAQ's - it isn't. Cutting off an episode 3 minutes from the end wouldn't be would it?! Don't hold your breath for a reply if you have gone down this route. So anyway Channel 5, how about an apology before next weeks episode? If this happens again, I won' be watching channel 5 again (I hardly do anyway) I shall just download the episodes for my friends or catch a repeat on a far more superior channel (Alibi). A shame really as I will miss watching CSI. I might download those too - who knows how many episodes they have cut short on that show, as I don't watch them in advance!

My friends and I came in late last night and watched this episode recorded on Sky+. Now I have watched all 3 series and I am currently watching series 4, so to anyone who hasn't watched it, they would not have realised that around 3 minutes were cut off. I then had to explain to my friends who I had recently introduced Castle what had actually happened in those final 3 minutes -which were central to the plot! Central to their relationship and central to the rest of the series. Viewers who haven't seen series 2, 3 and 4 and don't have access to the internet, will be wondering what the hell is going on next week and in future episodes! A disgrace Channel 5 and so amateur.

Yes it was only 2 and half minutes but quite crucial ones. Moderating a forum of inappropriate content is a completely different thing from responding appropriately to an issue raised. I suspect the best way to get an answer over the missing time on the broadcast is to use the "contact us" facility rather than here.... Having said all that... Why oh why was it cut short on the broadcast.... I have a limited processor and my attempt at watching online was jerky and out of synch. This is why I prefer watching the broadcastt, it is more reliable, better picture, more comfortable (sofa) - the only down side is that I can't avoid the ads like I can online. However if Channel 5 is going to carry on like this then I shall end up not watching channel 5 and they will thereby not have people watching their adverts resulting in lower revenues.

I just watched the final 5 minutes online - actually it was only 2.5 minutes missing from the broadcast version, but they were pretty crucial, providing closure to the episode, and I'm disgusted that Channel 5 chopped the episode short for the sake of a nonsense competition. Even more frustrating, to watch those 2.5 minutes online I had to sit through 1.5 minutes of ads that I couldn't fast-forward through - very annoying to those of us who don't have unlimited downloads. The least Channel 5 could do is apologise and offer a direct link to view the end of the episode online, without ads.

Yeah, come on Channel 5 - how about an apology both here AND at the start of the next programme for those of us not lucky enough to have internet access! At least I was able to watch the cut five minutes - how many of your viewers don't have that luxury and have no idea how the programme should have ended!

I love Castle, but the producers could have paid more attention to the details. I'm from what you call 'Eastern Europe' (Czech, Slovakia, Hungary, etc. is in fact central Europe) - and I can tell you the writing on that candy wrapper is gramatically incorrect, it feels as if they put some English words into online translator and the result is nonsense :)

I think channel 5 should apologize for the mistake they made last night in the broadcast of Castle. It is simply unacceptable that the last 5 minutes of the programme were cut off. I especially agree with Jon Smith. Why hasn't channel 5 issued an apology or explanation when they are clearly able to see what everyone is saying on here?

  • Gill

Just watched the end of Castle, which was essential to the story, as the tv was cut short by 5 minutes. Channel Five is getting worse..not better..with the trailers being more important than the programmes. Come on - get it sorted. Someone is in the wrong job !!!!

Thanks for the warning fellow users, I wont bother try to watch this now until the last minute. I have actually seen series 1-3 and am at present watching the 4th series on Alibi. It is such a good series I am enjoying watching it again, Channel 5 are jokers and abuse their watchers. I would advise you all to get SKY and with it you get SKY go player so you can catch up when you want - quality, perfect service - never the service Five gives, abs jokers, and they respond to hints, problems and just care.

It's bad enough when a continuity announcer breaks into the closing credits of a programme and completely breaks the mood but when it's a nonsense competition and the end is cropped that is doubly annoying. You have to wonder how many other programmes have been cropped and we never noticed. Two seconds earlier and we'd never have known. At least the online episode ran full length.

So why did you cut off the last 5 minutes that were SOO central to the plot??? You'll now leave everyone who hasn't seen the episodes in total confusion and in limbo as to whether Castle accepts the novel deal for the certain British spy!!! You treated that episode quite poorly I think! No one who watches it watches for the quiz thing at the end!! You end the episode at 10.50 so you can fit in a shed-load more adverts but you cut the programmes short to do it??!! WHAT GIVES??? I'm NOT impressed!! Do you want this show to be the hit for you that it should be?? DON'T TREAT IT BADLY!!!!
