In the first episode of the series, Dom and Melinda take on a cowboy bridal shop owner. As Dom investigates the trader's history, Melinda tries to make a couple's wedding dreams come true.
Why did you make use of Momentum Coach Hire (#momentumcoaches) as a supplier for this episode when you should have been investigating them.
They mucked up the booking and on my wedding day I had to get all the guests to leave the reception 45 minutes early or risk being left behind.
Despite admitting they missed my instructions, no amount of calls or emails is close to getting an admission of fault.
Wouldn't wish Momentum on my worst enemy.
Regarding the Brides of Portsmouth scandal and the involvement of Cowboy Traders in being responsible for the shop's downfall, the Channel 4 programme had nothing to do with its closure. The owners have previous experience of allowing their bridal shops to go into administration and have already been investigated by a TV company in Kent which was aired a couple of years ago. Save your sympathy for the brides and grooms, NOT the shop owners.
Totally unfair that the present owner of this bridal shop had business so badly affected by this program that they have had to close and even sadder left Brides without dresses. Nice one Channel 5, going to help those affected? I doubt it very much. Journalism at it's lowest.
Well I certainly wouldn't trust a woman who was caked in make up and looked like either a clown or 5 year had drawn their eyebrows on half way up their foreward. Hiding behind a mask perhaps? Thankfully I'm planning and organising every detail of my own wedding. Wouldn't trust anyone to do it but me. Lesson learned ladies.
will mel and dom be back to mop up the mess there show has inadvertently had in portsmouth this august with the demise of brides of portsmouth. what the original lady did was wrong and what looked to be happening still was possibly suspect but now more brides are left in the worst possible mess once more and the shop lays the blame squarely with this channel 5 program. having seen news reports i really do think a balancing statement program from channel 5 is needed to lay to rest any blame the shop has put on them and also to show the stories of the latest round of victims
I watched all of the current series of cowboy traders on catch up tv. I have some experience of some of the issues exposed by this excellent programme. Back in 1970 I ran a mobile disco company and in 1971 organised my own church wedding, cars, service, choir, reception - just about everything including bridesmaids dresses, wedding dress, hairdressers and beautiician. There were no complete bridal services available at the and I thought I had spotted a niche in the market. Armed with a business plan, I approached my bank and obtained promises of the finance I needed.
Preliminary advertising produced many enquiries and it soon became apparent that there were major flaws in my original business plan. To make a living from the business would mean one of two choices. I would either have to charge clients unrealistic prices or rip them off. I did neither and closed down without ever trading.
Ihave bought and sold mobile homes and properties both at home and abroad. With lawyers from both sides acting in the interest of the client, there were rarely problems. Most countries in Europe require the services of a public notary in order to make a signed contract legal and binding. Surely no-one in their right mind could be so gullible as to pay the full amount for a mobile home that that they had never seen or approved, on an undeveloped site without local planning permission for permenent residence. Surely the close relatives should have realised they were vulnerable to exploitation and taken steps to prevent this happening.
I also have experience of owning and letting property in the UK and have never had any problems personally but a close friend of mine has. I am calling her Jean for reasons of anonomity whose father suddendly died. Jean was living in Germany at the time and having inherited her late father's house, engaged a letting agency to manage the house.
Everything was fine apparantly. The agency sent her reular statements showing the rent received and the the outgoings needed to maintain the property. This included things like a new washing machine, repairs to the roof etc. They said that as the rent did not cover the expenses completely, she would need to send some cash to make up the shortfall.
On her return to the UK, she found the house empty. No tenants, no work done and the house so damaged as to render it practically uninhabitable. The tenants hade done a moonlit flit, there had been no rents paid into Jean's account from the agent who had gone out of business, taking what rent had been paid with them.
This was clearly a case of a landlady who had been abused by both her tenants and her letting agency but there is nothing in current legislation that looks out for the interest of property owners in the UK.
we had the same happen to us but it was our venue!!!! its a terrible thing - but we have just managed to get married but we are now left with debt that we wouldnt have had ! :(
What justice? Yet again the programme ends with viewers having no idea if the culprit is ever made accountable - properly accountable - for what he has done.
we have been to the enviromental health about the problems with our home.
we went to visit our son in scarborough whilst there we had a fire in the basement which they dont know the cause off and the land lord and land lady just dont give a hoot, all they have done is say we are in arears with the rent and are now threatening eviction. we are living on our wits as we have no heating as the boiler is broken, the electric wiring is a mess, our front door is unsecure, the door at the back off the house is a shed door,we have leaking radiators, theres a big chunk of the wall that leads to the kitchen from the alley thats missing. the list goes on, we were told and have it in writing that work had to be done by friday just gone or the enviromental health would put a closure notice on the house, this is not happening as the land lady has told lies saying that my husband verbally abused the gas engineer, this never happened as no contact with plumbers, land lord/lady has been recieved by my husband and no ones ever been to the door except the plumber that came whilst my husband was in bed i wish that some one would help us out the way you help people on your show
You should see the house I live in, time an time again I been to my landlord but he does nothing, the only thing he says is ur in the best property I have, my friend also rents from him an the got lots more wrong with there house
I hate cowboys they make me sick they put other trades down just so they can get a fast buck!!!im a tiler and have been for 10years and if i could id love to help some of these people but i guess one person being nice will get rid of these cowboys!!!rant kinda over !!
The adverts aslways play without any issue but the progamme keeps stopping and cutting out and having to refresh the page then watch loads of adverts again. Its really annoying had it on more than one programme on demand 5
i felt so sorry for those who were so cruely treated by that woman but as the saying goes what goes around comes around and i hope she will get her comeupence
what a great show. Thankfully their are some very kind people who donate to help people. Unfortunately their are a lot of rouges out their. I hope the people get some free advertising in their local paper. What a shame the bbc cannot put their names and companies up. Perhaps the bride and groom could put an advert in their local paper on facebook to say who they are. Well done team.
thiers an old saying mud sticks these buggers dont careless about anyone eles only money a law should be interduced to outlaw the rouges,i agree with r turner send in the sherifs all guns blazing
Just feel that it was slightly misrepresented as over 35 came forward re this issue, my friend being one, who had to beg, steal and borrow in order to have a wedding at all, as she received nothing from this company....not even an apology....
I cant beleive someone would do this do peoples lives - a wedding is one day in your life when you can be happy but this person ruins it for hundreds in one foul sweep . !!
Pay for everything by Credit Card. If you don't get what you pay for or the company goes bust, you can get a refund un der section 75 of the 1974 Consumer Credit Act. If you've paid by cash/cheque/debit card take them to County Court and if they don't pay, move the case to the High Court and send in the Sherrifs http://thesheriffsoffice.com/
YOU CAN GET JUSTICE AND YOUR MONEY BACK
The British Bridal Retailers Association members offer brides free insurance for their wedding attire. It protects their deposit as well as covering the gowns against theft and accidental damage
Thanks to Melinda and Dom for letting us be a part of this episode and we wish Lucy and Dan all the best for the future now they are finally Mr & Mrs! With Love from all at Purple Vanda. x
