    As a Private Sector Housing Officer, (who deals with disrepair in private rented accommodation for a large city council), I was surprised that the programme did not highlight the local authorities ability to address some of the issues raised. This should have at least been raised in the list of advisory groups at the end. Local authority housing departments and/ or environmental health departments have powers to make landlords carry out certain repairs. There was very little (in the way of repairs), that could not have been dealt with by a good enforcement officer. Most local authorities also are able to advise tenants on such matters as illegal eviction and harassment.
