Played by Eric Szmanda
Ever since he picked up his first amateur chemistry kit when he was seven, Greg Sanders has wanted to be a scientist. Even though he was told that science was supposed to be a hobby for the pasty-faced and romantically challenged, that dissuaded him from neither joining the Science Club in high school nor taking Chemistry in college. He had always balanced lab work with athletics, studying with flirting and computer work with dating.
Addicted to the pursuit of knowledge, Greg has been on a quest to learn all he can about the scientific breakthroughs of the past centuries - and being able to discover and name after himself a new theory or element wouldn’t hurt either.
After years of lobbying for a shot at working in the field, under the watchful eye of Grissom and his co-workers, he was able to complete his transition from the lab to a career as a fully fledged CSI.

Yeah, these character write ups are weak. I mean this quote here - 'Addicted to the pursuit of knowledge, Greg has been on a quest to learn all he can about the scientific breakthroughs' - What about his quest to learn all that he can about the history of the Las Vegas and its founding fathers for his book.... ?

Seriously... who wrote these?! "Balancing lab work with athletics"?? Greg told Grissom his mother never let him play sports because she was too protective. Even I remember that.
