Great programme with no problems running the video (a bit of a blip with the ads right at the start but it sorted itself out), The storylines for this series are really weid - more power to the writers!!

It seems to me the problems fall into roughly 4 categories: __(1) VIDEO SERVER CAPACITY - The (US-based) 3rd party service does not offer enough capacity to handle the user demand. Crucially BBC (until recently with its new Live Restart offering, which has been going through teething problems) has used its own on-shore servers. They also focussed on offering downloads, which puts less strain on servers. As 4oD uses the same video server company, one wonders why theirs works significantly better than Demand 5, which has far fewer videos to store and serve. The difference could be in whether someone at Channel 4 actually knows how to demand an adequate service from their video service provider and whether their software developers are better than the (UK-based) software development consultancy Demand 5 has engaged. __(2) TECHNICAL FAULTS - This probably lies between the video server and the software development companies. The ads appear at random breaks, now overruning actual dialogue. The ads even freeze in zoom mode. The 'Report a problem with this video' link is poorly designed (image overlays the Captcha form), preventing an accurate report. Programmes are sometimes not published on time (although this has improved of late). Adobe Flash Player is one of the worst pieces of kit around, with each upgrade introducing a new set of problems (e.g. sound now cuts out). There is nothing users can do about any of this. __(3) INTERNET BANDWIDTH - Users can try everything to avoid peak times, but even that is not enough. It seems that none of the IT parties (video server, software consultancy, or Channel 5) has taken into account that UK-based ISPs offer one of the worst infrastructures in the developed world. Worse, they lie! Even (toothless) Ofcom has confirmed that services do not run at the bandwidths advertised (or anywhere close). That should be taken into account in the design! Try developing a lower bandwidth option, as available in other countries, and putting more controls in users' hands. A grainy picture on my 15-inch laptop is better than a frozen one designed for a 28-inch TV screen! __(4) CHANNEL 5 MANAGEMENT - This encompasses everything from general IT supervision, providing a knowledgeable customer service desk, establishing meaningful performance measures, ensuring problems are not under-reported or ignored, and understanding the important relationship between good quality service and advertising revenue! PLEASE GET IT TOGETHER CHANNEL 5!!!

I am just happy you can watch the full programme without all the previous 'stops' that was happening for the last 2/3 months. Thanks Five for fixing that and listening to our feedback.

It is not the internet connection that is the problem. The ad's are all the same each and every ad break, you have to either maximize or minimize to activate each ad otherwise it runs with just sound til the end of the ad and then stops. This is truly unacceptable! I only watch Demand 5 because of the programmes they have on and not the service you get. They have to look at i player to see the type of service you get and the reliability offered. Come on Demand 5 about time you really overhauled the system and put more upgrades in!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does everyone use a 1970's computer with dial up connection or something? I watch demand 5 all the time, at home and on my work breaks, and i have never once had a problem with it, so i don't understand why it doesnt work for every one!! think some folk need to spend a few more pennies and get a better internet connection!!

ummm some people cant watch it when it airs and can't afford a recording dvd player! (freeview is integral to tv usually so why buy a seperate box!). Yes. we pay a licence fee but we also 'pay' for other channels by having to watch advertisements. In fact those channels most likely have more funds to spend on online content (the BBC is restricted as to where they spend their money) and have their advertisers to please as well with a decent service. Therefore we are customers and as such can expect a decent service

If you don't like it, watch the programme when it airs, or buy a Freeview box that records, I have one! 4OD is just as bad. People need to realise that iPlayer is so good because YOU PAY FOR IT. What do you think your TV license is for? It pays for the BBC! 4OD and 5OD are free to you; appreciate it!
