Eddie Stobart keeps the forces' stomachs from rumbling by delivering refrigerated goods to the NAAFI (Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes) shops in Germany. Ex-squaddie Eric Cullen delivers a load of paper to the company's home turf in Cumbria, and new recruit John - another ex-squaddie - takes to the road for the first time in his truck Emma Alexander.
Not a qualification to his name??!! Most soldiers get lots of training and skills for later life. I bet lots of them have just as many qualifications as you.
This series is a real insight ... When a Soldier is ready to leave the Army without a qualification to his name and no hope of finding a job what sould we do? Oh I know, put him through his HGV test & stick him in another green uniform then let him behind the wheel of a truck ON MINIMUM WAGES and call him a Stobart Drver . . . Great, Not!!!!!!
Those 'eight Bedfords' look an awful lot like Scammells!
And I hope not all Stobart's drivers spend 60% of their driving time looking at the passenger seat rather than through the windscreen!
We have an ex Eddie driver at the company i drive for, told me some interesting info(wink).Plus i talk to a few Eddie drivers at Ashford truckstop,It ain't all what it appears to be.Like Barry i sometimes have to smile at some of the things shown...
Have enjoyed the programs so far.
I just wonder why they only seem to use Scania & Volvo trucks, and why just use MAN's on the tankers?
Can anyone explain?
Having been overtaken twice recently by a stobart truck at well over the speed limit I find their claims of driving standards to be a little exaggerated
I'm not totally clued up on this but i would imagine the buzzer in the Seddon atki was low air pressure.
Not suprised it didn't move brakes would have been on till it built up enough to release them , i would have thought he would have known that
I for my sins was there the vehicles up there were Seddon Atkinsons, Daf DROPS,MAN 16t, Foden Wrecker and obviously the plant the truck Eric was in was a Seddon Atkinson as I was sitting next to him
Fifer they may not make them anymore doesnt mean that we dont use them I cant comment directly on the program as I am now in Kenya on another Op.
Nigel I can agree that some ex squaddies stories can get a bit boring but I am sure if i spoke to you for long enough some of your life experience stories would bore me.
Ex squaddie,Bill and Big Mac, first i must say i have every respect for people that are in the services, and are doing a great job.
BUT,i think you three proove my point, i never said in my post that i had a more boring or less boring life than any squaddie, and i think your posts go a long way to show i am right, because just because you have been in the services you think that makes you better than the rest of us, well it dos'nt, so keep your boring storys to yourselves.
since when was them army trucks bedfords they where scammells either 8x4 or 8x8 plus they dont make sed atkis any more some should do there
homework afore the prog goes on air
Nigel, whats the most dangerous thing you have ever done, probably get up in the morning and make a cup of tea, that is if you are not scared of the kettle, now ask a few squaddies the same question.
Sue, the foreign truck drivers take the fuse out of the speed restricter, that's why they go faster than us Stobart drivers, yes it is annoying because they hardly get pulled over by the authorities.
Nigel, how can you call ex squaddies boring and self centered? They live an exciting life and like to tell the world about it. Just because you maybe have a boring life dosn't mean to say the rest of us have. The army is the best life ever and your just jealous that you never have had an exciting life or a story to tell. jealousy gets you no where!!!!!
sorry but the foreign trucks are NOT restricted to 56mph - and if you want proof look on the UK motorways and see all the trucks going faster than that - all non UK trucks. And Uk trucks restricted for road safety reasons - but it ok for the foreign ones to speed!
I agree with micheal, worse episode ive seen, ive worked with ex service people, and they are the most boring self centred people, especially when they bore you to death with there boring military storys, and they always think they know best, when very rarley they actually do.
eee by gum did not like thia episode think they are scaping the bottom of the barrel and making eddie stobart and there driver and workforce look a little silly now
Eddie stobart are the best haulage company ever!!!!!!!! I have a callender, spotters book and the magazine i allways look out for them because they are the best on the road. (KING OF THE ROAD!!!!!!!!!!!)
