Emergency Bikers

Essex police bikers

Meet the biker-cop squad keeping the roads in Essex safe.

Essex police bikers

Meet the frontline heroes of Britain's emergency services as we follow West Midland's Ambulance Service biker paramedics and Essex police biker cops, and enter the world of those who daily risk their lives to save ours.

Essex police's biker-cop squad patrol some of the busiest roads in the UK where routine checks can yield some surprises, from a cannabis haul to a man carrying a lock knife. And their crackdown on safety has seen the death and serious injury rate cut by a third over the last three years. From dodgy lorries to speeders, tax and insurance dodgers to collaring burglarly suspects, the squad’s on the case.

And PC Lucy Watson is gunning to be the first woman to join the squad. Has the 47 year old mum of two got what it takes to get through three gruelling weeks of training where her biking skills will be pushed to the limit?

Steve 'Stomp' Allum

  • Aged 47 and with 27 years' service under his belt, Steve is the elder statesman of the team.
  • He's a keen fisherman, having once caught at 185lb catfish in Spain.
  • He hates anything healthy.
  • His all-time favourite super biker was Karl Foggarty. Stomp followed him all over Europe to watch his races, and met him many times.
  • Stomp has ridden on nearly all of the old European super-bike circuits.

Roy Keyes

  • Aged 49, Roy has 22 years' service under his belt.
  • A huge Southend United fan, he goes to most home games - work permitting.
  • Roy rides a BMW 1200 Adventure and is just back from touring Austria with his wife, with whom he travels all over Europe.

Ray Jeffery

  • Aged 48, he has been in the police for half his life, at 24 years' service.
  • A keen DIY buff, he likes a pint of bitter (out of work hours, of course) and deplores paperwork.
  • Ray rides a Honda Pan-European, his favourite bike.
  • Van Rossi is his favourite motor GP rider.

Lucy Watson

  • Aged 47, she has been in the police for 7 years.
  • Lucy grew up around bikes, as her dad had a motorbike shop which she ran for a few years.
  • She rides a Suzuki GSX 600, and is the first female police motorcyclist in Essex for over 20 years.
  • Lucy loves course fishing, bodyboarding, going to the gym and gardening.

I met one of these so called Essex police heroes and ended up at a court where I won because the hero lied. Why this channel celebrates this disgrace of our society?

Was just wondering when you will be putting up the profiles of the remaining Essex cops, i.e. Clem, Mick, John and Martin?

Martin I have experienced the same lying seeems to be rife.they are not heroes, they flout the law as they please and victimise the innocent. All good things come to those who wait and judgment day is just around the corner!

I would really like to know why my comment was removed? It was a perfectly reasonable question!

If you ever see one of these so called heroes flouting the law by speeding through our villages when they are not on an emergency. REPORT THEM!We are sick and tired of seeing these Essex bikers racing through our village for no good reason. Its not big ,its not clever and you have totally lost the publics respect.

I am afraid some people do not respect, or realise how good these motorcycle police riders are. I thought i could ride a bike on track days etc until i undertook advanced riding and now am even faster but safer just like these guys. police class1 motorcycle riders are the mutts nutz even if they come across as arrogant jobs worths.....

Martin, they all lie. I think there are so many programmes on the telly now about Police so that we get to appreciate them. They don't tell the full story about how bloody corrupt they all are.

My sister is one of those biker cops and I'm incredibly proud of her, not only for living her life's dream but for helping to keep the streets safer. She's suffered no end of injuries from criminals but she bounces back and keeps up the good work. So, if you've got a critisism then perhaps you should try doing the job they do...

There seems to be alot of negativity towards these police officers,so i thought i would offer up a balanced view. I have been helped and assisted by one of these officers beyond the call of duty. however a friend of mine was punished badly because one of one of these officers lied in court against her.i guess there is good and bad in all groups of society. To summerise my good experience has been tainted with a very bad one,so to keep a balance lets not praise them beyond what they are, nor should they be berated so heavily.they are people doing a job, that is well paid,in sometimes dangorous situations, but that is no different to many other occupations.
