Potentially the biggest day of Meredith and Derek’s lives starts with a trip to the church, where they're due to marry later that day, after a shift in the hospital.
Meanwhile, Alex, George and Callie are roused froma slow day in the ER to deal with a terrible road accident involving a group of students on the way to their graduation ceremony. All have suffered life-threatening injuries, and they share their stories with the medics: one could have started a relationship with another but will now never have that chance; and Becca, the class valedictorian, will never get to make her speech.
Meredith is annoyed when Richard scrubs in on what is supposed to be her solo surgery. Mark then also joins in, but he helps little – just insists that she had better not leave Derek as he does not want to be his best man for a third time. After a successful operation, Richard tells Meredith that her mother, Ellis, would have been very proud of her.
Izzie’s condition worsens as she again hallucinates about Denny and, fearing that she has another tumour, is given a repeat brain scan. When this reveals nothing, Derek wires her up to a sensitive monitor in the hope that when she has another vision, the machine will direct them to a specific part of the brain. Tragically, when the machine does its job, it's with heartbreaking results.
Later, on her way to church, Meredith finds Alex himself in tears after getting news of Izzie - and, inspired by one of Bailey’s ideas, decides upon some last-minute alterations to her special day.

I'll second that - it's so frustrating. Would be better if it was shown at a decent time in the evening. There surely can't be that many people that watch TV at 4am?

Still think that this is scheduled badly (then problems with iplayer) and done deliberately so that viewer figures fall until ch. 5 don't recommission the series. Big mistake. Make it prime time viewing ang your audience (and therefore your profits) will shoot up.

please ch5, can you sort out your demand tv ? for a 41 minutes episode, it took me 1h 30 as it just froze all the time. beautiful episode, cried a lot and izzie was a beautiful bride.

Wow, despite having to watch it in demand 5, I think this episode needed to come with a major tissue requirement warning. Great episode don't think i've sobbed like that at a tv programme for ages.

Great episode, and wish I'd read the comments/warnings first so I knew I'd need tissues to hand! Not only do Ch5 show it at an unreasonable record-or-watch-on-Demand time, but because of the gap since the last series, we are way behind the US. Please please Ch5, show the next series without delay after this finishes in a couple of weeks.
