Biography

Witty, frank and down to earth, Irene is your true Aussie fighter and nearly always game for a giggle - but life hasn't always been so rosy.

Though these days she's got her alcohol problem under control, Irene's battle against the booze has seen her suffer her share of dark times; in fact, when she first hit Summer Bay in the '90s it was as part of a desperate attempt to patch things up with sons Flynn and Damien, who had been placed in Pippa's care.

So, who'd have thought that Irene would later emerge as a successor Pippa's role as the town's much-loved matriarch? Granted, she fell into the role by accident, but her easy-going nature has made her the perfect foster mum to a cast of waifs and strays - nearly all of whom have ended up taking shifts in the diner, perfectly placed under her watchful gaze.

Irene is so caring and kind to others. She always puts other people before herself, which I think is an amazing quality of hers.
