Feeling unwell and in no mood to celebrate, Alf leaves VJ’s birthday party, which has by now has lost all sense of meaning and descended into tragedy as news reaches town of Vinnie’s death in the prison riots. In a state of confusion the Summer Bay stalwart can barely believe his ears as he trudges into the diner and hears a noise, followed by a woman’s voice; fast losing patience, he asks the culprit to identify herself, anything but prepared for the jaw-dropping response as his late wife Ailsa steps into view.
