Summer Bay stars Luke and Rebecca to wed
After first meeting on set three years ago, real-life Home and Away couple Luke Mitchell and Rebecca Breeds have announced their engagement.
Their Home and Away alter egos might not yet be living the dream when it comes to their relationships, but off screen real-life couple Luke Mitchell (Romeo Smith) and Rebecca Breeds - who first met on set in 2009 - (Ruby Buckton) have plenty to celebrate, having just announced their engagement.
Luke, who took three months preparing for the proposal, popped the question in April during a four-day break on Hayman Island, Queenland, where he and Rebecca were celebrating his birthday.
'Honestly, it was one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life,' Luke tells New Idea magazine. 'I had the element of surprise - I didn't tell anyone what I was planning, not a soul, not even my parents.
'But pretending there was nothing special on my mind for three months before I actually asked her to marry me - that was the best acting I've ever done!'
Rebecca adds: 'I turned around and there was Luke on one knee with a ring box in his hand. My jaw just hit the ground. I was so surprised I forgot to say "yes" at first!'
And when it comes to setting a date, it appears Rebecca's keen not to wait too long before walking up the aisle: 'I don't want a long engagement,' she explains. There's a film out at the moment, The Five Year Engagement, but I don't think that's how we're going to roll!'
