Dave and Lisa deal with their malfunctioning truck.
Having cut their teeth in Alaska, then conquered the Himalayas, the Ice Road Truckers now face a new challenge: South America.
Six drivers, accustomed to the wildwinters of America’s largest state, test their mettle on the dangerous roads that traverse the Andes. Working in pairs, the drivers have to haul loads along some of the most dangerous roads on the planet. Old hands Hugh Rowland and Rick Yemm make up one pair, series regular Lisa Kelly teams up with Dave Redmon and newcomers Tim Zickuhr and Agustin 'Tino' Rodriguez make up the final team.
Hugh and Rick’s first load is made up of nearly 20 tonnes of concrete pillars that have to be transported from Bolivia’s capital, La Paz, to help rebuild the flood-stricken town of Rurrenabaque in the Amazon lowlands. This involves tackling the most notorious sections of one of Bolivia’s most dangerous roads, the North Yungas Road or 'El Camino de la Muerte'. With overhanging rocks, hairpin bends and narrow ledges cut into the side of the mountains to navigate, 'The Death Road' claims around 300 lives every year.
