Jack Taylor: The Magdalen Martyrs

Sorry, this episode is no longer available to watch on Demand 5.

Find out why

Galway Private Investigator Jack Taylor is hired by the daughter of a former inmate of the infamous Magdalen Laundries to find the identity of a former nun, known only as Lucifer, who was notorious for taking pleasure in torturing the girls.

Jack has hardly begun his inquiries when he is warned off by local hard man Bill Cassell. He soon unearths evidence of a cover-up when files which might have revealed the nun’s identity are found to be missing from church records.

The case grows more complicated when Lucifer’s nephews are found executed –who is trying to get at her nearest and dearest? Matters get worse for Jack when he accidentally causes the death of Bill Cassell’s henchman.

Jack is now wanted not only by the Garda for his involvement in the henchman’s death, but also by
Bill Casssell. He faces a race against time to prevent a third murder, while at the same time the inevitable showdown with Bill grows ever nearer.

Just watched on laptop via IE10 and Win8 and looked and sounded perfect. The adverts are a bit of a pest but as C5 and other independents have to make their money that way we got to accept them.

I used to want to throw my laptop through the window with the constant freezing but have now upgraded my broadband and have a macbook - watching is just as it should be so maybe not just a C5 issue.

Whats the point in having a "Catch-up"service that doesn't work? Its total crap:You should fire your technicians and hire ones who know how to make it work;or is it a totally "London"centric device that works only if you have 20gb+garbage!!!!!Whuy dont you repeat these shows on air?

A complaint about constant freezing of programme, repeated advertising and no subtitles (the sound on my laptop aint great) ,but judging by all the other complaints about the same problems you can't/won't do anything to fix them. Is Channel 5 catch-up worthy of the name??

Two more Jack Taylor stories have been filmed and are currently being shown on Irish television. Pity C5 didn't mention this when the excellent series of three finished.

ch 5 why not do something about the complaints instead of remoing comments i too am sick of watching adverts over and over again when having to refresh on a way too frequest basis, i will never buy ******** yoghurt or visit ***** as am sick of their adverts sort your site

Like many other Channel5 programs, this keeps getting stuck - and you have to refresh the page to get it to continue playing. This is bad enough but, even more annoying, is that you have to then sit through another repeat of the same adverts (with which you are so heartily sick that they do much more harm than any possible good for the advertisers). If these programs must keep getting stuck, then perhaps you can at least sort it out so that refreshing the page as necessary doesn't put viewers through all this all over again every time we are obliged to do it. I often end up watching all the same old ads twice as much or more than I should have done - and frequently give up for this reason

Thanks Channel Five, instead of FIXING the problems with your iplayer. You remove my comment. Beware people Channel 5 may remove your comment, instead of trying to fix their video inconsistencies.

Dear C5, I am not hearing impaired, but I can easily understand the frustration and disappointment of viewers that are, surely an option button for sub titles would be a good idea? I know that there would be a cost involved, but I am sure you realise that the hearing impaired are a sizeable portion of your viewers? Whilst I am flapping my lip, I too sometimes have the same kind of problems that some others of your viewers complain of, but most of the time I find them easy to fix, it would be nice if we didn't have these problems though when trying to watch C5 programming.

always found 5 On Demand worked OK and wondered why people complained. Shouldn't have got complacent cos now it is happening to me too! As others say, I cant play the last x minutes, just adverts and more adverts. Totally incompetent Channel 5 player! Can someone tell me what happens after Jack visits Bill (Ben? FPM?) in hospital?

Dear Channel 5...I really want to watch these programs...this is the worst iplayer of them all. 2 minutes of adverts then it freezes. start again...watch the adverts again...2 minutes and it freezes...How come the adverts dont freeze? This happened watching CSI on Tuesday. You need to do better than this! Its infuriating!
