The competition is particularly tough as all three chefs have such good reputations. Classically trained James was Head Chef at the Ritz before setting up in business with his fiancée, Sarah, at The Ebury, a high-end gastropub in London. They have the experience but could find the Battle Kitchen a very different kettle of fish. They are up against best friends Hamza and Sam, who run El Cantara in Soho. Will Hamza’s Spanish/Moroccan-themed menu help them win a place in the grand final? The last pair are Alan and Ivano, a father and son-in-law duo who run The Old Bakery in Lincoln. Will Ivano’s Italian-inspired menu more than compensate for Alan’s lack of front-of-house training?

    The art of the blee**ing obvious! A shame Marco's knife can't be used for a quick personality implant - on himself. My son,who's a 'budding chef' regards him both as a genius and a self-mocking joke. Stick to the lucrative stock cube ads Marco - you're not made for telly!

    I think Marco and his knife are hilarious in a prowling mock threatening way. It's supposed to be humourous and anybody who takes it otherwise needs to lighten up a bit. C5 promoting knife crime? Pah, ridiculous! I suggest most of the people who've posted comments take a look at their spelling and grammar as well.

    A suggestion for any further series would be only to select from those who actually serve al the food out rather than choosing ones who have failed the task

    I agree Marco should not be using a knife as a prop, what relevance does it have to the show ? a kitchen implement I hear you say, yes but is it really necessary ? It is so big and scary looking I'm amazed he's using it but I don't agree that Channel 5 would care if people complained, they'd be happy to get the viewers ! @JOE - let's not get carried away here, Channel 5 is not trying to raise the profile of knife crime, it just happens to be a kitchen knife albeit a horrible sharp one !

    I find the comments about Marco waving a knife about amusing and somewhat pathetic!..it's a gimmick, for goodness sake, not intended for any other reason!..If CHANNEL 5 Thought it might cause people to complain, they would of changed it, for, I dunno, Marco,standing suggestively clasping a courgette!..Then again, the P.C. brigade, and do gooders would have a field day!

    I think that channel 5 is allowing this behaviour it likes that fact that knife crime is so high and is using high profile people such as Marco Advocate knife crime in this country it is disgusting that he is being allowed to point knifes at people if he did that to me I would find it a threat to my well being does he intend to eat the contestants of kill them. You C5 should do something about this and ask him if he could use a pointer and not a knife.

    How the hell does Marco get away with waving a deadly weapon about every episode. If it was anyone else doing this they would be arrested for threatening behaviour & intimidation. I find it very unsettling to watch for anyone who is a budding chef. His behaviour is intolerable & unexceptable. In this day & age when knife crime is so high im amazed that hes allowed to do this. SORT IT!!
