Mugly first came to media attention in 2005, when The Daily Mail named him the Ugliest Dog in Britain. He later went on to win a TV contest to find the ugliest pet, and has since appeared on numerous local news programmes and chat shows. In 2010 Mugly even 'married' Yorkshire terrier Lola on Sky series A Different Breed.
Mugly is an eight-year-old Chinese Crested, often known as a Chinese Crustie. He is hairless apart from his whiskers, one eyebrow, and a couple of odd little tufts of hair on the top of his head, his toes and his tail. In the winter he changes colour and becomes much lighter, almost pink.
Mugly has an extensive wardrobe, not just to remain stylish but for health reasons too. He gets very cold in the winter and burnt in the summer if he is not wearing sun block.
According to his owner Bev Nicholson, Mugly worships the sun so wears t-shirts and vests in the summer to protect his skin; he also needed a whole new wardrobe for his trip to California.
