In The Green Room: Gemma Pranita

The name behind Ramsay Street siren Jade Mitchell reveals her idea of perfect happiness and why a house just isn't a home with flowers.

In The Green Room: Gemma Pranita

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
For me, being at peace with everything, and I think you can reach that by being compassionate.

What is your greatest fear?
[Being] trapped in a pit of snakes

Which living person do you most admire?
My best friend Kate Revz. She is one of my greatest sources of inspiration because she is the most motivated, driven and humble person. I’m very lucky to have her in my life.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I have inconsistent energy levels.  I’m either super hyperactive and full of beans, or I just want to sit on the couch and become lazy. I wish I was more in the middle; I think I’d be more productive. I’m sure it has something to do with my sugar intake!

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Arrogance and a sense of entitlement

What is your greatest extravagance?
Flowers.  Before I joined Neighbours, I was working in a bar, living dollar to dollar.  When I first started getting a regular salary, I decided that every week I was going to have fresh flowers in my home.  There is a beautiful florist up the road, and they’re bloody expensive, but they last the whole week and I love walking in, and there they are.

What advice would you give Jade?
Enjoy the moment.

What is your favourite journey?
Exploring Italy.  I love art, so for me seeing the David and Sistine Chapel was amazing, and something I’ll always remember. I fell in love with Florence.
On what occasion do you lie?
I’m actually very punctual, so when I am late, I feel I have to come up with some extravagant story to justify why.

Is there anything you would change about your body?
My hands!  I have hyperhidrosis, or perpetual sweaty palms, and it drives me crazy.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

What is your greatest regret?
Not continuing with French. I was very good at it in school, and my cousins are all fluent in French, and if I had stuck with it, I’d have three languages under belt now.

When and where were you happiest?
Walking through Central Park with my boyfriend

What is your current state of mind?
Blissfully happy because I’m going on a break, I have work to come back to, and there is nothing I’m unsure of. I’m very content.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d like to improve my memory. I’m terrible at remembering people’s names.

If you could one thing about your family, what would it be?
I wish we all lived in the same place.

Who or what is your greatest of love of your life?
My boyfriend

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I think my greatest achievement is still to come. I’m just on the journey now to reach it.
What is your most treasured possession?
Over the years I’ve collected a lot of plays and complete works of particular playwrights, which I really do treasure.

What do you most value in your friends?
Their generosity of spirit. I think I have the best friends in the world, and they are just there during thick and thin.

What is that you most dislike?

Where would you like to live?
New York

If you come back as someone or something, what would it be?
Freddie Mercury.  I just love Queen, and he would just live life hard and fast.

What is something that people would never guess about you?
I can recite the alphabet backwards; it’s my party trick and is completely redundant!

What is your motto?
There is no excuse for bad behaviour.
