Neighbours cleans up at Inside Soap Awards

Chris Milligan and Tom Oliver brought a much needed ray of Aussie sunshine to proceedings as Neighbours scooped two gongs at tonight's 2012 Inside Soap Awards.

Tonight the 2012 Inside Soap Awards have played host to a galaxy of TV's favourite stars, with Neighbours' very own Chris Milligan (Kyle Canning) and Tom Oliver (Lou Carpenter) bringing a ray of much-needed Aussie sunshine to proceedings at London's swanky one Marylebone.

The ceremony truly belonged to Neighbours, which thanks to the public vote saw off competition from both fellow Aussie favourite (and last year's winner) Home and Away and BBC One's Doctors to be named Best Daytime Soap.

It was also a big night for Ryan Moloney (Toadie Rebecchi), who for the third consecutive year won Best Daytime Star, having been nominated in the same category as cast mates Chris Milligan (Kyle Canning), Eve Morey (Sonya Mitchell) and Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy).

Greg Barnett, Channel 5's Commissioning Editor of Entertainment, Daytime and Soaps, says: 'Ramsay Street has been the home of some fantastic drama this last year and it's a delight to know that viewers are enjoying the great mix of storylines the Erinsborough inhabitants are involved in. We're thrilled Neighbours has won this award.'

Greg adds, 'You cannot argue that Ryan Moloney's portrayal of Toadie has clearly won the affections of UK soap fans. This is his third consecutive win and we're absolutely thrilled for him.'
