Neighbours: Remixed UK winner revealed

The wait's finally over: hundreds of you entered and thousands of you voted, but there could only be one Neighbours: Remixed UK winner.

With 37% of the public vote, Channel 5 viewers have chosen Daniel Boys to represent the UK in a battle-of-the-nations sing-off for the chance to become the new voice of the Neighbours theme tune.

Daniel will now jet off to Melbourne to go head-to-head with the winning Australian finalist, Stephanie Angelini. The judging panel will consist of Neighbours' executive producer Richard Jasek; music director Chris Pettifer; and Aussie entertainment legend Barry Crocker, who was the first to sing the theme of the much-loved drama series over the opening titles from 1985 to 1992.

'I'm thrilled to have won the British vote and am so looking forward to going Down Under and representing the UK in the next stage of the competition,' says Daniel. 'I will, of course, give it my best shot and hopefully come back the winner! I grew up watching Neighbours and am still a fan today, so the thought of millions of people hearing me singing the famous theme song every time they tune into it is so surreal, but very exciting!'

Daniel Boys, 34, from Yateley, Hampshire is a professional actor and singer, who is best known for being a contestant on the BBC talent show Any Dream Will Do in 2007. He has appeared in many musicals in London's West End, throughout the UK and internationally, as well as performing in concert, on radio, television and film. His debut album So Close was released in 2009. He is currently starring in The National tour of High Society.

Greg Barnett, Channel 5’s Commissioning Editor for Entertainment, Daytime and Soaps says, 'The contest has been enormous fun for our viewers and I couldn't be more thrilled at having such a strong contender in Daniel to take on the Aussies in the final showdown. He beat a very strong field and I've got every confidence that British public have picked a winner.'

After Daniel and Stephanie have performed live in front of the judges, the overall winner’s vocals will be heard on episodes of Neighbours around the world from April this year. Stay tuned for updates!

It is interesting, Channel 5, asks our opinion, A LOT OF US, say keep it as it is, and the opinion is ignored. I hope the one they picked was a good one, most of them were rubbish.

Congratulations, Daniel!!! Lots and lots of good luck in Australia!! Crossing everything for you! Who would have thought that Bacchus in the amateur production of 'Orpheus in the Underworld' in 1997 would come so far?! :-)

It went to a professional actor and singer? What was the point of bothering the public to enter when they could have just sent him over? I hope he has a good holiday and all that, but let's be honest - the new theme sounds like a poor attempt to bring back the Line Dancing craze made popular by The Mavericks.
