The field has bee nbrought to the boil, simmered and now reduced to just just four teams, two of which meet in today’s semi-final. In the shadow of the Albert Memorial in London’s Kensington Gardens, Siobhan’s ‘Box of Frogs’ team takes on Filipa’s ‘Gourmet K’ crew for a place in the grand final.
Joining Ainsley to judge the teams’ efforts is TV presenter Jenni Falconer. In the first round they get to try Box of Frogs’ peppered steak stroganoff, for which Siobhan’s commis-chef is her son’s girlfriend Viki. Filipa’s mum Kathy makes up the other half of Gourmet K, and they prepare spaghetti and meatballs with a red pepper sauce. Which of these two hearty dishes will wow the judges?
The second round sees the cooks facing the Family Favourite Dessert category. Siobhan is now joined by her son Toby to tackle her lemon curd syllabub with coconut wafers. However, it is in fact very difficult to cut corners with this recipe - can they get it right?
In the red aprons, Filipa’s husband Rich steps up to the plate to prepare ‘Eton Less’, a healthier version of Eton Mess, with plums and almond Biscuits. But how will the cookie crumble? And which of
the two teams will Ainsley and Jenni decide have merited a place in the final?
