Why Aren't fleet protection group royal marines on board?

America's drug problem is America's problem... I wonder how much this tour cost and would it have been better spent combatting piracy off the horn of Africa?

Good look , HMS MANCHESTER.

Had 2 commish's on her,1982 & 1988. Great ship, sad to see her go.
@Paul sheppard...do you remember a Banjo west he was a buffer...was on board same time as you?
This was the last ship my Dad served on and i remember when they had buzz the Bee helicopter...We went on board when it was home quite often.Although i was young i still remember.xx
Tango Oscar Mike
My dad was in The Royal navy although not on HMS Manchester. He trained at fleetlands as an RN Helicopter pilot, he's flown nearly every helicopter I can think of and has tought me alot! I can now fly helicopters and planes.
Russell Marshall your sister is hot! ;o)
I'm not surprised Ciaraa, it was an Ibiza booze fest on water wings. God only knows what the USN made of the crew. Seriously embarrassing snapshot of 21st century RN.
i want this to be my job when i am older
hope they start to show abit of the real engineers down in the engine space, its all about the same 2 peaple one that swears all the way through and 1 that just talks about her love life, my partner works down the engine spaces and its not shown 1 clip of them hard at work, it doesnt show the navy for its true colours and hard work that goes in to the job, good job stokers we know how hard you work with out them showing you guys on t.v for what you had to do out there.x
Fantastic job done by all the crew onboard the Manchester. Doin a fine job keeping the bad guys at bay.Wouldn`t of minded a piece of that monster BBQ tho....Keep up the good work

What a great documentary, well done to the crew of HMS Manchester. The politicians should be ashamed about decommissioning such a fine ship!
ROGER THE DODGER
i FORGOT TO sKYPLUS THE ORIGINAL SO THRILLED TO HAVE JUST WATCHED IT ON "CATCHUP". a BRILLIANT PROGRAMME AND A FANTASTIC INSIGHT TO LIFE ON BOARD. AS A NON MILITARY PERSON, CAN I REQUEST THAT THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED IN THE NAVY, DO NOT DENIGRATE THE PROGRAMME PLUS THOSE SERVING ON THIS SHIP OR THEIR FAMILIES WITH THEIR ON-LINE "NAVY" SQUABBLES? THANKS
stuart mclachlan...at least the "skimmers" are usefull met some of you "hard working" submariners in Diego Garcia all they seem to do was gob off about being depth charged, till they got filled in by Royal and told to wind it!! Overall a good program
Hi Fergie!! I didn't know Rex was a TV star!!
Was in Manchester (the city) not long ago, and I met some of the crew of HMS Manchester in Waxy's in the Printworks. Great bunch of lads, and was very happy to buy them a drink. The ship was being decommissioned the following Tuesday.
Hope the guys made it back to Liverpool that night.
Great programme! Well directed and shot. Shows the Navy as 'real' with quality characters such as the Captain, Paul, Kerry and BIG Jim which is why I think it is such a success with almost 3 million viewers! Well done you guys!!
comment is awaiting moderation
bleeding skimmers grabing all the limelight as usual while the submarine service does all the real work
I am very proud not only of my husband, but also being part of the support and many military wives are, seeing my husband in the opening sequence as they leave portsmouth, many things happened on this final deployement of a great ship with malfunctions etc they are far from an embarressment to the service.
as an ex navy PO reg got to say good job done by the crew
Kevin (dusty)Rhodes ex Lwem
Going back just a few years 1987 was doing this on HMS Glasgow,We though 5 month deployment was long then, from then then normal 3,kids grow alot while your away,We had a disater exercise then on the now covered old capital, guess it helps local when it does happen. Not much changed except US coastguard on ship.and more drugs... at less time on the shore...doing PR.
I met some ah these guys in Barbados, had a mad bbq with them, nice one guys!
Who is tha Scottish woman from fife, loved this I have applied to be in the orally navy.
Was on the edinburgh (type 42 stretched) meself and had flashbacks watching this. (ACT)LRO1 Beckett

Our marvellous Prime Minister has pulled the plug
Navy forced to drop warship patrols in Caribbean through lack of funds
Good old manchester - the first ship i served on as a baby tiff in '87
Hearing some of the ships company saying "this is my bed" was comical, we used to call them "pits". Ships company's are not issued with Duvet's these days as well are they ?
Damn, I missed the first episode. I served on HMS Manchester in the 90s and am sad to see that she is being decommissioned. And for Jamie Scott - having served on the ship, she's actually a Type 42 Stretch Destroyer - defo not a frigate!!!! :)
I hope this has a series 2. And comes out on DVD. With Spin of series on other RN activities
As an ex matelot with 24 years in what an embarrassment to the service
Great series! My sister's just back from that trip, 7months in the Carribean. She's the one who shouts at them to get back to work - In charge of the Ops Room. Her last trip, I think she enjoyed it ;) Certainly came home bronzed! Welldone Marie, See u soon xx
i wanna join up now
To Jamie Scott' I can assure you the Manchester is a Destroyer and not a Frigate which is why it's side number is 'D 95 and not 'F 95. I should know, I was on the first commission back in 1982 as an Ops Petty Officer.
i served on hms illustrious when they did the first warship and to see this make me proud of my days in the navy.
Being an ex matelot reminds me of the great times I had serving in the carribean. Great veiwing.
Stokes, if there were no Civvies in the MoD the Ships would't get to sea, nor stay there! ;)
I'll watch this tonight when i get home from work. :)
Well done five stick on dvd plus H M S OCEAN program as i missed it thankyou
navy is the best
Well done Manchester. I hope all politicians. past & present who were/are hell bent in reducing the size of the Royal Navy are hanging their heads in shame. Clear out the civvies in the MOd and get more Ships to sea! The best job I ever had, being an Engineering Mechanic Royal Navy.
Good to see the Andrew at work and not on exercise. However, is this real with termonolgy such as "Thats my BED", "Bed spaces" and A Lt Cmdr saying "The scuttle cover goes over the WINDOW!!" Come on. I know hammocks gave way to bunks, but BEDS!
Have a mate from Australia serving on exchange - says he's in one of these episodes. But bummed I cant see it!
Can someone please upload this video to youtube? I don't live in the UK so I can't watch it online.
umm type 42 destroyer? Type 42's are frigates!
Wonderful first episode - I feel very proud! Love you Richard!
To MATTHEW UPTON: Keep trying & get some Psychometric test books they are on e-bay, you are so keen you deserve success.
To HMS Manchester and Chris, well done, and as all you guys n girls know this first drugs haul was a mere drop in the ocean! Fast forward and can't wait till next episode. I am so proud of you all !
can't believe my son's cheesy grin is one of the first faces you see!!!!! great programme tonight, well done to all on the Manchester, very proud of all of you
Can't wait to see my little brother in action! Well done to all the crew.
my cousin is followed on this whole series i cant wait! hes the lad who proposed to his gf as soon as he got off ship! so proud of you ben! xx
Looking forward to watching the series. Lets hope they show the on station RFA vessel as well as they are deployed to most operational areas that the Navy are and in some cases carry out the work in place of a warship.
Good Luck to HMS MANCHESTER tonight.
Also Good Luck to Wayne and Laura.
You are about to have the BEST time
of your life, so take it all in and remember it for the rest of your life
as its the best thing that you are about to do with your lives, i know as i was in the Royal Navy for 9 1/2
years and regreted leaving it to save my marriage but it did not do so, i so wish that i had served my 22 years as it was a great life you will not regret it, so get some time in you young Matlots.
Ex Able Seaman...FJ Burt.
cant wait to see this tonight always wanted to be in the navy but failed the writen tests :( will keep tryig you gyes inspire me to do it good luck
At last - a series about the Royal Navy on operations and not just exercises. Everybody just thinks we float around practising the whole time - not actually doing something useful. Crack on the Mighty Manch! Show 'em what the Royal Navy is really made of.
Can't wait to see this programme tonight...and see my little brother Stumpy on the trail of the pirates...a very proud family will be watching you x
Can't wait to see this! Joining the Navy myself (completed application, just waiting for a Raleigh Date!) Enjoyed Warship, think this will be another good docu!
i'm going to mrs moffs' house to watch it all!! think if i watch it on the 42" i WILL look way fatter than normal. hope everyone enjoys it, at the end of the day you'll all see that we got the correct results in the end
Tonight's the night then? I shall be firmly anchored to the TV. Just wondering what channel (if any) they will tune into from the ship's mess this evening !!?
Can't wait for this to start, I am hoping to join RN, got my medical, interview and pre joining fitness test the day after the first episode :)
To Bill Mahoney, it's sad that she is being decommissioned shortly and for you especially - When she returned from this final deployment it was quite poignant to see her berth behind the Ark Royal.
On the flipside though we have the new "D" Class and I'm proud that in May, both my sons will be serving on HMS Diamond.
Bill Mahoney (former Naval Overseer)
Very pleased to see the old girl still going strong. I was helping with the building of HMS Mancheater right from the paperwork through all the testing and sea trials (CST;s and FMT's) right up to the delivery to Portsmouth Dockyard where she was handed over to Commodore James Briggs. My family and I visited a few times when she was alongside in Liverpool and again in Pompey Dockyard during navy Days.
Looking forward to this programme. We saw the 'Manchester' docked in Key West - June last year so it will be interesting to see the context of how it came to be there.
Can't wait to see this... I did three WIGs duties during the 80's on HMS Plymouth and Cumberland. It'll show my parents that it wasn't all sunbathing, rum and women.... well only 85% of it was lol...
Erika, Tel Dyer fixes the toasters on the ship, who the hell is going to want to watch that????
won't be long now, carnt wait to head up to liverpool on sunday and see the old girl on her final trip,
see you sunday matt love you x x
Good to see another Royal Navy series on Five - well done!! Sad to see HMS Manchester retire but a BIG well done to all her crew both past and present. She is open to visitors 12-5pm this Sunday in Liverpool Liner Terminal.
can see my daughter in the pic above :o)
Standby everyone - Good luck to HMS Manchester and all who sail on her. You are about to make a nation proud.

carnt wait to see my cousin matt in action really looking forward to watching it.
Can't wait and I shall not be moving from the TV next Tuesday night. It'll be almost as though we were all on deployment with those great guys on a Great Ship for The Manchester's final deployment. Well done to all the crew and Chris Tyrell
Really looking forward to seeing the Mighty Manchester in action!
