Very pleased to see the old girl still going strong. I was helping with the building of HMS Mancheater right from the paperwork through all the testing and sea trials (CST;s and FMT's) right up to the delivery to Portsmouth Dockyard where she was handed over to Commodore James Briggs. My family and I visited a few times when she was alongside in Liverpool and again in Pompey Dockyard during navy Days.

To Bill Mahoney, it's sad that she is being decommissioned shortly and for you especially - When she returned from this final deployment it was quite poignant to see her berth behind the Ark Royal. On the flipside though we have the new "D" Class and I'm proud that in May, both my sons will be serving on HMS Diamond.

To Jamie Scott' I can assure you the Manchester is a Destroyer and not a Frigate which is why it's side number is 'D 95 and not 'F 95. I should know, I was on the first commission back in 1982 as an Ops Petty Officer.

Damn, I missed the first episode. I served on HMS Manchester in the 90s and am sad to see that she is being decommissioned. And for Jamie Scott - having served on the ship, she's actually a Type 42 Stretch Destroyer - defo not a frigate!!!! :)

I am very proud not only of my husband, but also being part of the support and many military wives are, seeing my husband in the opening sequence as they leave portsmouth, many things happened on this final deployement of a great ship with malfunctions etc they are far from an embarressment to the service.

hope they start to show abit of the real engineers down in the engine space, its all about the same 2 peaple one that swears all the way through and 1 that just talks about her love life, my partner works down the engine spaces and its not shown 1 clip of them hard at work, it doesnt show the navy for its true colours and hard work that goes in to the job, good job stokers we know how hard you work with out them showing you guys on t.v for what you had to do out there.x
