So much ammunition wasted on one little boat. Such litterbugs. Is this what our taxpayer money goes to? What an embarrasement for the navy that cant even sink a civvilian boat. :-(.

i am puzzled why HMS Manchester does not have a crane to lift small fishing boats out of the water rather than having to escort one for 4 days at 4 knots back to Columbia. I think the Colombians may have duped us knowing if HMS Manchester was tied up for 4 days other drug laden craft could run the gauntlet. I would have sunk the fishing boat and helicoptered the crew back to Columbia once in range along with the US coastguards and the seized cocaine as evidence.

Good advertising for GoFast boat sellers - even the navy can't sink them when they are stationary - never mind moving at 70mph.

Its fine but why are naval personnel allowed to get so fat, particularly if they have to wear such short, tight shorts. How about a bmi of 25 max and knee length shorts with no vpl

i would just like to make a few comments with reference to the negative remarks on here about the service, fleet and personnel 1st we are the modern navy that is why so many countries send their Naval personnel to train here 2nd the surface fleet is coming into the 21st century and everyone who is in the Navy has a HUGE part to play including submarines and surfave fleet 3rd there is a ranking system the Skipper of the Mighty is a very down to earth family man and i will say happens to be the best skipper the mighty has had. so if you cant say anything good then please do not say anything. I am very proud of my husbands role in the Navy

i agree with the last comment.what incentive is there for young people to join the navy when they see the hierarchy of the navy as such upper class poncys.young people now a days dont have to put up with it. I hope the navy suffers in recruitment because of this.he days of nelson have gone get in the real world you bunch of loosers

"my AB found it hard to bring on board"does this AB not have a name.the surface world needs to get into the 21st century.the way they talk about lower ranks on this show is disgusting.the navy especially the skimmer world need to get a grip.to all young men who are watching this i urge you to join the submarine service and be respected for what you do and as a person and not be treated as a number.

Well said Dhobybucket. If this was nothing to do with us we wouldn't be there. The bit where the crew of HMS Manchester sink that "go fast" is doing some good since they said that it could be a hazard to another boat passing by at night, such as a fishing boat. Maybe listen more and you may realise :). What about all of the tax payers money wasted by the British goverment on radical idea's and putting money in to europian causes when we don't get half as much back. Maybe you could complain over that instead.

I think that Mr Hogan is being somewhat unfair. It may not be the same as his navy but surely it has to evolve with the times to remain an effective fighting force. The officers and ratings on Manchester would show Mr Hogan the respect he deserves as a service veteran and I'm sure that they deserve the same in return. They are as willing to put their lives at risk as he was. The boat sinking was a bit of fun on Trafalgar day and the point about their work in the Carribean being NOTHING too do with us is factually incorrect, as these drugs are not only destined for the States, but kids on our own streets in the UK.I too served in the RN for 22 years (including two three year drafts on the Manch, 82-85 and 87-90)and have enjoyed the series so far and have nothing but admiration and respect for those doing the job now.

Well said "Hawkins". My son is on the Mighty Manch and everyone knew this "Go Fast eposode" was just a bit of fun. Come on Jim, loosen up a bit - TV is entertainment and not a true reflection of our fine ladies and men, who keep you safe in your bed ! A great series and a big Thank You to everyone on HMS Manchester. Good luck to everyone, for when you move on after the decommisioning.

Crikey moses! Spare me from old sea dogs who are stuck in the past. The modern navy is better than the old navy exactly because it has moved with the times. If it had not it would have sunk without trace. As it is it remains one of the best in terms of training and man power effectiveness. So please keep your prejudices to yourself Jim and don't betray your ignorance of the modern naval era. Manchester was obviously not only a happy ship but a very effective ship and well run at that. The episode with the unsinkable speed boat was just a bit of fun - and the CO was a good sport about it. The ship, if you did not notice, then went straight on to nab some drug smugglers and goodness knows how much heroin. That probably saved countless lives of young people who all too easily fall prey to the attraction of the white powder these days. Move with the times Jim.

I reckon this is the most accurate portrayal of the Senior service I have seen. It reflects the hard working ethos of the sailors as well as their sense of fun and community. If I were a younger man - I would be straight down the Naval recruiting office!

We only have to wait a week to see the next episode, let's remember the deployment was seven months - so we only have a short snapshot of the patrol and just how well our ship and its crew coped with the time away! Well done Manchester and all the crew who worked as a true team for the RN ! Roll on next Monday !
