When the girls make their escape from Manhattan to an old friend’s house in Connecticut, they discover that Laney Berlin, ex-groupie and reformed exhibitionist, now lives a rather different existence. Perturbed by her apparent lobotomy, they leave the shower in a hail of recriminations.

When Samantha throws her own ‘I don’t have a baby’ shower, Laney shows up uninvited, a sad spectre of her previously spectacular self. Carrie, meanwhile, is in a tumult over her potential pregnancy...
