Carrie goes where no woman has gone before (being refined, elegant creatures who do not perspire, excrete or emit noxious fumes of any kind). Fleeing (or tottering) away from the scene of her crime of flatulence, she begins to fear the consequences.

This moment of near-scatology (a welcome addition to Sex and the City’s erogenous encyclopaedia) is succeeded by the eponymous drought, which refers to not only Carrie’s misadventure in gas but also Sam’s self-imposed celibacy, Miranda’s sexual embargo and the cheery abstinence of Charlotte’s anaesthetised boyfriend.
