Find out why

The team races to the scene of a drive-by shooting that has claimed the life of one young man. The youth is pronounced dead at the scene. “There’s a lot of chaos here. Distraught family members. A lot of people very, very angry,” Steven says. “We need to lock this scene down so we can preserve the evidence.” Police are alarmed to receive reports of another shooting minutes later. A man has been gunned down inside his car. “It looks like he was shot by somebody he knew,” Steven says. From his list of prior arrests, it would seem the victim was involved in drugs. “None of the neighbours saw or heard anything,” Col John Fortunato says. “We have no leads on this one.” Most of the crime in the parish is connected to narcotics in one way or another. “Since Katrina, Jefferson Parish has had its highest murder rate in 27 years,” Steven reflects, on what has been a tough night for police. Elsewhere, the officers launch into a pursuit when they spot a group of youths running away. The lads are stopped and searched, but there is no evidence of drugs. “We don’t know why they ran, but they don’t have any warrants, so we’re gonna let them go,” Sgt Lawrence Matthews says. Steven gives the youths the benefit of the doubt and agrees to sign some autographs for them, whilst delivering a sage lecture of the importance of staying on the right side of the law.
