Submarine School

Series 1 - Episode 2 - Lurking In The Shallows

The five Perisher students take on a new challenge that is a crucial part of modern submarine operations – they will be sneaking around in dangerously shallow waters conducting reconnaissance missions and dropping sensors across the mouths of harbours.

The pressure ramps up even higher when a group of military top brass come onboard to gauge their progress, including two of Britain’s highest ranking submariners who waste no time throwing spanners into the works. For one student the pressure gets too much and five Perishers are reduced to four.

it was even grimmer in the 50s and 60s for the crews on WWII T class boats

it was a little different on a WWII 1200 ton Diesel Electric T Class boat in the 50's & 60's

so many memories came back, but it wasn't only the students on trial. The whole crew was also doing it. Was like a continuous work-up. Worse on the T & A class 1950/60's.

good programme - BUT this is a POINTLESS web page - what a waste of time channel 5 - a let down as per usual - how can every other broadcaster (BBC,ch 4, Sky etc) enable web content and 5 seems to be stuck in its infancy even after all these years?

As an ex submariner and now a fire-fighter who works shifts how can I catch up with this series if its not available, why is this web site called "On demand " when its not ???

How come the BBC have programs on iPlayer more or less straight after the program has aired, while with 5's on Demand service you have to wait several days?

Colin Davis, typical crabfat, Ill informed as usual. Don't forget Submarines take time to manouvre and change depth, it's not just a wiggle of a joystick, also remember they are responsible for the safety of the boat and 130 crew. Colin stick to what you know!

Sam, J O'D, it's still miles better than ITV's poor attempt at doing it... at least there's pages for programmes even if they're not available for viewing yet...

Can't wait for episode two (having served in HMS Dolphin during my National Service 1952-54) but I am obviously going to have to do so. Perhaps the staff at Channel 5 have started playing Ukkers!

This is even more stupid - episode 2 is ready before episode 1. (I could be rude!)

Episode 1 was up the other day. I believe they have no taken it down due to Episode 2 being up... Of course that's rediciously idiotic given that they have only given people 48 hours to watch it.

Great programe! Shame about sequence of viewing though. BTW - question for Colin Davis. Was that the same RAF that flew all the way to Port Stanley in the Falklands conflict, bombed the airport runway - and missed?! Meanwhile, one of Her Britannic Majesty's Submarines managed to successfully put a couple of torpedos up the Belgrano's Duck Run!!!! Never mind - the RAF will soon be disbanded and absorbed by the Army and the SENIOR SERVICE!

Colin Davis, this is an ENTERTAINMENT show summarising in 4 hours what the producers decided were the most ENTERTAINING moments from a 6 month course. Enjoy it for what it is. Perhaps people here would have expected better judgement from a genuinely experienced RAF officer. Didn't get in the RN Fleet Air Arm then? Perhaps if your lot spent less of the tax payers' money on hotels and more on adding value to defence we might consider your opinion?

as an ex submariner i totaly agree with the raf officer.these guys dont have a clue in man management.too tight a schedule to worry about the men.The fact is now the navy are too scared to offer redundancy to submariners cos if they did the subs would be empty FACT
