Simon Baker stars as Nick Fallin, the hotshot corporate attorney who is sentenced to community service as a result of a drug conviction.

When casting The Guardian, the series' producers found in Australian-born Baker the unique combination of star quality and depth of character they had envisioned for the title role. As for Baker, he welcomed the opportunity to play Nick Fallin. 'Nick is very complex in nature,' he says. 'It's appealing to play a character who is constantly being challenged both personally and professionally.'

Baker has come a long way in the relatively short time since he received Australia's prestigious Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent in 1992. Adding to an impressive resume - which includes roles in feature films LA Confidential, The Devil Wears Prada and Ride With The Devil - he can now be seen as Patrick Jane in The Mentalist, also on Channel Five.
