In Kent, self-styled showman Joe has been popping champagne corks in the family-owned, eight-bedroom 'champagne and oyster bar with rooms' for the past 23 years.

After leaving his London casino job to manage the business, Joe’s aim has been to bring a taste of the four-star city luxury to the quiet Kent countryside. But his ‘unique’ tastes in décor haven’t been to everyone’s liking.

Cowhide bedspreads, four-man hot tubs and erotic artwork are just some of the delights facing potential guests at check-in. The poor occupancy rates and dwindling profits tell their own story.

Alex has her hands full, trying to convince Joe to embrace some changes to make his hotel a little more 'female friendly'. But when she is asked to spend the night in the ‘Champagne and Shoes’ room with mirrored ceilings and a dance pole, it is clear that Joe’s naked ambition may have gone one step too far…

    I think the manager of the hotel hit the nail right on the head in this episode when we said something like "she always has something to moan about...but then, who would want to live with her???" Full marks for summing up arrogant Alex' attitude in one sentence! If she is such a great hotel expert, why does she have to do this TV series anyway, hmm? Not making enough money from a real job, but hassling others and forcing her room designs on them, only smiling when manager's mothers confirms she absolutely "loves the new style to bits". Does Alex ever accept criticism or questioning when she is trying to push her staff meetings and overview sheets. Welcome to Polizzi's democratorship - you will be allowed to do what Queen Alex tells you to do. Ask questions and she'll throw a tantrum. All she wants is to have the camera screen her legs up from ridiculously high heels up after each advertising block and show her parading around with a superior look on her face. GO HOME, ALEX!

    although i feel the rooms are a little expensive i have visited it twice. and i must say the restaurant and food is the best i have ever tasted, and will be visiting again.

    I visited the hotel this weekend, and was a little disappointed that the Bollinger Room had not been changed at all since the feedback they recieved from Alex. The picture of that room on the website is so much nicer than the actual room, which was a real shame. The restuarant is so amazing though - what a fabulous job they have done with that since the program - the food was absolutely amazing..........

    I am visiting shortly for dinner hopefully. Am looking forward to seeing the layout and to try the menu's special and champagne. :) The countryside setting looks very picturesque I thought. Lovely garden area in the summer months to dine in.

    I loved this episode especially the chemistry between joe & Alex. I would definately stay there in the champagne & shoes room.

    Couldn't disagree more. The odd well timed swear word makes the show and is all the funnier when employed sparingly by someone who is clearly extremely articulate and doesn't use it almost as a punctuation mark like certain TV chefs

    Oh dear! Can you say "over compensate"? This ageing would-be Lothario is one huge embarrassment. I could hardly bear to look at the screen when he was on. Does he not know that there are actually women in business these days? (And in fact they've been there for some considerable time) If I were shown to that Shoes and Champagne room I'd be highly offended. I'm a business owner and travel on business and for personal trips on a regular basis. This place is tacky, tacky, tacky! Oh, and then he wants to charge extra for breakfast? What a joke! Perhaps he needs to cut the apron strings and travel a bit himself?

    You cannot book rooms online through Expedia. Just says they are unavailable. Also can confirm their web site has been suspended. I guess this is one that didnt make it. What a fool Joe was.
