Clover Spa is a seven-bedroom hotel and spa, owned and run by 56-year-old Tim Higgs. Tim has been a naturist for more than 30 years, and after a career as a farmer decided to take the plunge and become a hotelier, opening up Britain’s first ‘elite’ naturist retreat.

But Tim’s drea mof allowing his naturist guests to let it all hang out has hit his bottom line. Despite attracting guests to use his spa facilities during the day, he is struggling to attract people to stay the night. When Alex arrives she is shocked to discover that Tim insists his guests remain naked throughout their stay, in every part of the hotel, including the lounge and restaurant area. And Alex is no exception!

    I only found out about Clover 3 weeks ago. Tim has taken on board alot of the contents of the program. I know this because i didnt watch the episode until today, having visited several times. If you are a "newbie" or are interested to find out more about naturism, you cant fail to start here. It is a safe, secure environment and if all you are after is relaxation, then Clover is the place to be and if you do doecide you want to cover up, i havent seen any suggestion that this is a problem. From what i saw on the show and what i see at the Spa/Hotel - if you want to cover up, so be it. If you dont - you don't. Its up to you. But please trust me when i say that the facilities aresuperb, the staff are welcoming and if you want to chill out, i cant recommend anything better.

    I watched hoping to see Alex getting her kit off and chillaxing with everyone else... so disappointed she didn't (at least on camera). Am with the others who mentioned the food was unacceptable for a hotel/spa. The owner WAS A FARMER.. WHAT'S HE DOING PASSING OFF MICROWAVED PACKETS AS FOOD???? He needs to watch some cooking programmes on TV if he can't afford a professional chef! Noodles, home made sandwiches, salads, baked potatoes even.

    Why is it that so many hotel owners are so dogmatic and resistant to change? For one thing, who in their right minds opens a naturist hotel in the UK where naturism is not the 'done thing'. Alex is right, he needs to be trying to attract the newbies or the people curious about naturism. The owner insists on a no-clothes policy for the entire hotel, even when this is likely to alienate first-time guests. The dining room in particular should not be a no-clothes area. As someone else pointed out, even in the naturist resorts in Europe they require some type of clothing in the dining room. He really should listen to Alex's advice instead of having a completely dogmatic approach. What's more important? Having a fanatical devotion to naturism, or running a business?

    The worst thing about this programme was the commentary - "will they ever run out of stupid nauseating innuendos?", we asked. Nearly turned off because it made us cringe. Poor old Tim - a really nice guy - and good for him to continue his naturist-only policy. We want to come to Clover Spa to enjoy the relaxed environment Tim has created. We wish him every success - and no thanks to this programme!

    I can't believe that I had to 'check' a box to say I was over 18 to watch this.programme We are so damn stuffy about nudity in this country. It seems fine to see someone getting shot or thrown off a building, but god forbid we are traumatised by a naked body.

    As i am married to a Finnish womanand myself being English, I can completely understand where his idea came from. Unfortunately nudity in the U.K. is looked at differently than the U.K. and i really do mean UNFORTUNATELY. The Finnish culture is so different to the U.K. and in my view a better culture. Nudity is not always a sexual thing as many britains may think. In Finland it is a natural/un-sexual thing in groups/ family situations. Come on brits, Why can`t we live like the Finns and not let our eyes wander. Sizes and shapes may be different but who Fckin cares. We all need to feel comfortable in our own bodies and not think people are judging.If peopke are judging they are there for the wrong reasons and should not be there in the first place,

    The commentary was spoken as normal and there were a large number of inuendoes - spotting them was great fun - the host was not! He was humourless and obsessive, without any of the skills necessary to deal with guests; at any spa hotel I would expect decent food - I don't eat ''boil in the bag'' at home! Did Alex borrow that undersized bikini? I suspect she looked better in it than she would have done if she had stripped off.

    As naturist we would love to use the hotel, however the main problem for us is, you are over looked by the house/hotel next door. We find it strange that no one has pointed this out. For one problem we won't be using the hotel.

    As a naturist for over 30 years I think Tim needs to 'lighten up' when it comes to naturism. I've been to naturist resorts all over Europe and I've not been to a single one where the dining is nude. I agree with Alex that a more pragmatic approach would be to keep the rooms and dining area clothed and the Spa and garden either naturist or clothes optional with a preference to naturist. I also agree with Alex when it comes to up-selling, that is where the profit is. Tim is under-selling everything at the moment with what should be a very popular, quality, hotel. With top rate facilities, and some more individual bedrooms, the place should be packed as it is unique in this country.

    really enjoyed this episode. However she completely missed the major point. The owner is not a salesman, He should remain in the office, enjoy the lifestyle, and get someone else to front the operation. A meet and great person, someone smiley. I am a naturist, and live local, but haven't used it because of the rigid policies. I want to go with a friend who would prefer not to be undressed all the time, and she is scared of attending. That said. It takes guts to do what he has done and I really wish him luck. I will give it a go!

    i really enjoy the series and this episode in particular. i would love to visit the spa. I often go to a sauna in hotels abroad where no one would dream of wearing any clothing and the idea of a dedicated nudist hotel is wonderful. Thanks Alex for a marvellous programme.

    I am NOT a naturist. But I visit Clover Spa occasionally(distance and travel costs prevents me going there more frequently) for a half day(4 hours) use of the spa. It is a great little spa. And it allows me to use the sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi as they should be done - WITHOUT any clothing! This is the most beneficial, hygenic, healthy, and relaxing way to use such facilities. NOT wearing sticky clingy swimwear! It is a shame that more unisex spas in this country do not allow such use in their spas, instead of their "please wear swimwear at all times" nonsence. In other countries in Europe it is the norm in their spas that swimwear is strictly prohibited.

    I do have to agree with bits of everyone’s comments. For me, this made for uncomfortable viewing but only in it’s un-nerving eagerness to show diversity – but that’s my own opinion. The points that I think disappointed me – for a Hotel/Spa of this individuality were; Food; I would have expected a freshly produced menu to emphasise is Spa ethos and all round wellbeing experience. &; It’s clinical and utilitarian décor – although very practical it weren’t much welcoming/warmly. And I have to say, it was very pleasant to Alex show and understanding and willingness to taste it from a guests point of view. Very interesting.

    I agreed with most of what Alex said. To get more customers then accepting clothes in the dining area seems reasonable, or at least a towel around you. German spas I have been to insist on towel or bathrobe in the dining/food areas, and no clothes/swimwear in the sauna or spa.

    I think the idea of a Naturist Spa & Hotel is a good one but if the rules are rigidly applied will limit the clientele that it appeals to. If the hotel area was made clothes optional I think it would help a far more people are tolerant of naked bodies than would actually bare all themselves. The meals are definite turn off as, naturist or not, I would not expect to pay that sort of money to end up with food that I would tolerate at home, and I am a single pensioner. The bedrooms looked quite nice, better than your average Hotel room, but the public areas were a bit stark and uninviting, nothing cosy about them at all, and Tim's manner did nothing to make them friendlier in my opinion. The majority of naturists do tend to be over 50 but that isn't due to a mid-life crisis as somebody suggested as most have been naturists all their adult life, I think it is just that the young are to over obsessive with body image, you can only strip off if you have the perfect body. Nobody has the perfect body so give up looking for it. I think that Tim needs to lighten up, be more flexible and start thinking like an Hotelier, not as a farmer. The public areas need to be a lot less stark and more homely and cosy and the microwave meals need to be thrown in the bin where they belong and replaced with good, old-fashioned, home cooking. And make albut the spa clothes optional.

The only thing that put me off this hotel was the less than appealing food.

    Full marks to Alex for persevering. Tim did appear a bit obsessive, but I think he listened to criticism of the sterile decor and gardens. But it was the enthusiasm of the young naturists that saved the day. I hope the journalists were as good as their words and gave the spa a great write-up.

    From a marketing point of view Alex has a point, especially about the food.However as someone trying to promote naturism as a normal activity I agree entirely with the hotel owner. Everybody reading this post has a bum, statistically it's a 50% chance you have either testicles or a vagina. If that's a problem.. get over it. Many resorts of the kind he is trying to promote exist in Europe and none of them are weird.. good luck to him is what I say

    It's not Alex that makes the puns & innuendos, but the narrator of the programme. I thought that Alex was much nicer during this episode! I do agree with some of the other comments regarding the Spa owner & facilities though. To sell more, he needs to be flexible... leave the choice up to the customer. Put a robe on when leaving the spa, and maybe dress for dinner. And yes, stop the microwaving meals! Sell the products to the customer! If however, it's going to remain Naturist, again leave the clothing option to the client as some may be a little shyer than others!. All in all, it looks a lovely place. (I personally wouldn't have the guts to go naked!), but I do wonder where Tim's wife was. Does she butt heads with him? He does seem quite stubborn! Great episode....Well done.     Well, I finally worked out how to watch. I think Tim the owner, is the creepiest man ever! And why were 90% of the guests men ( or maybe his friends ) ?. Where was his wife ??? Why did he ask for help if he already knew he wasn't going to do anything Alex suggested ? To be honest, I thought the rooms were ok, as long as a room is clean that's the main thing for me. However, if i'd booked in to that hotel and arrived to find nakedness was acceptable even in the dining room , i'd have demanded my deposit back and left rapidly! Surely no one goes to Birmingham for a holiday... and to attract business clients he needs to be more relaxed with his attitudes. I'm definitely not a prude, but the owner was such an arrogant, silly, creepy man I hope I never have to stay anywhere like his hotel !!!

    I'm a regular watcher of Alex Polizzi and being used to the way she talks, I did not notice all the supposed puns and innuendos people are complaining about. She talks about nuts and bolts and cracks all the time. I suppose it's just unfortunate that it was during a naturist episode that it was glaringly obvious to some. I didn't even notice at all! Was an amusing show and I agree that Tim really should have been a bit more flexible in his approach to encourage people who don't consider themselves naturists to join in, and encourage a greater number of people to stay there.

    I failed to watch all of the Hotel Inspector,. I watched the first part and was already getting wound up by the normal "titter ye not" attitude of the way the program was being portrayed. It did not help with only men being seen sat having their breakfast,and I for one would not want to see that around the breakfast table. As I said I did not watch all the program,but if the guy wanted to increase his business why did he not just advertise as a normal hotel/spa but add that clothing was optional around the hotel,grounds and spa area,with clothes to be worn in the dinning area. Giving people the choice would encourage more couples to stay if maybe only one of them were comfortable removing their clothes...GOD it's not rocket science,or maybe he thought by getting the publicity on TV it would boost his sales,but I would think that would be short lived. Once again I thought naturism shot itself in the foot,where was his partner in the opening shots,it stated he sank him and his wife's savings into the project but all you saw was him running around nude,with I suspect a couple of his mates used as extras. If naturists want to project the image better they should campaign for more naturist beaches and public pools/saunas where people can have the choice to where clothes or not. Taking a Hotel/Spa that only promotes total nudity is just asking for rejection. Well that's my critique for the day...Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
