The Panzer episode was probably the best in the history of this series. David Paymer was absolutely brillant and this the best example to date to keep the Red John sub plot alive.

Hey, I just got around to watching episode with San Joaquin killer that I had on sky plus and it had stopped recording after 44 minutes. It's not on demand 5 anymore so anyone know how I get to see the end of it. Was brilliant episode, I am gutted.

@ RickyP .. Jane was on top floor of the CBI building when he picked up his phonecall. Last season that was where he had his old boss pretend to hold him hostage at gunpoint so she could escape from CBI building where they were about to arrest her.

@Delboy - i was just thinking about UR suggestion Patrick woz RJ - wot about the othere series where he was tied 2 a chair with cellophane and taunted by RJ who quoted lines from a poem something with TIGER in it??? If Jane is RJ who was this bloke who then slit the throats of 2 victims infront of Jane ... anyone know?

that might be the case delboy, but that would be very annoying and I would personally not like that ending. In the first season he went shopping came back and his family died and he was sobbing, I dont think he's that much of a mentalist phycopath

I'd hate to shatter anyone's illusions but I'll just throw this into the ring as this episode proves it - and my thinking all the way from the start. Patrick IS red John. I think this is going to be one of those programmes where; once they get fed up; they will go out with an almighty bang and show us that the fact Red John has been so hard to catch is because his alter-ego is Patrick. He is certainly clever enough and this episode had a lot of clues to suggest this theory. I; like many; would be distraught to find this to be the case but boy, would it be a controversial ending to a fantastic show. What do the rest of you fans out there think? Anyone else think Patrick could be his own adversary? Food for thought...

It's all about the title of the episode "Blinking Red Light", Patrick only made the decision to bait RJ when he saw the light on the camera and had his 1000 yard stare moment, up till that time he thought he could trap SJK himself.

Well done Jane. Way to get justice on one serial killer and prove that RJ is still alive. I still want RJ to get caught though - I'm sure that the story writers could come up with another story line. It's kind of depressing to have an unreachable goal - a sociopath so clever he can't be caught. I really think he needs to be caught.

I think people are assuming too much of Jane. He simply has a different view of justice than is conventional. This was an evil man who had killed many young women and would go on to kill many more. He knew if he lured him into talking badly about Red John then he would be killed and this would stop so he did what he felt he had to do

john h, Van pelt is not red john as the name red john was given to the killer by the CBI so without the CBI knowing who red johns real identity is they could not of know that the killer is called Grace or that she had red hair.

The US schedule has been on a break since the 15/12/11 until 12/01/12. Although we, in the UK, started more than a month behind the US, with their constant breaks, we are now almost caught up. When Con mentioned, on last season's forum posts, the constant breaks in the US schedule he wasn't kidding! Those breaks in the US schedule will continue throughout the rest of the season & we, in the UK, are probably due for a break now too.

Can someone at Channel 5 please tell me why oh why has someone seen fit to take off The Mentalist (Channel 5's top show) on Thursday 5th January and replaced it with that inane show that is Celebrity Big Brother!!!!! I hope that this doesn't mean that The Mentalist won't return until after Big Brother has finished!!

Naughty Patrick, deliberately baiting Red John's trap with Panzer. Agree with other comments that it shows just what a dark side Jane has. It's easy to forget just how messed up he is. Loved the direction, hope we get more of these types of episodes!

Bumblebear, Simon directed last season's episode 0309 "Red Moon". Jack, I DON"T think it's great what Jane did! Since I've been watching this season at the US pace, I've had weeks to get over my shock & horror. I've been very conflicted over what my HEAD was telling me he did & my HEART not wanting to accept that he did it! I don't like Jane being THAT DARK! But, now that I've got the episode recorded on my DVR & I re-watched it closely, I HAVE to accept that Jane REALLY did do it deliberately!

The writers for this show deserve a massive amount of credit. You could see this was a different style of show to the usual ones from the outset as it pretty much told you who the villain was from the start but it was a twist on the traditional methods of baiting them and capture as it was all about how they were going to pin evidence on the guy. In the end, Jane showed the darker side of his character by seizing the opportunity to solve two problems at once. Fantastic and gripping series! The writers and cast deserve all the praise they get and I only hope they keep this show running for years as it's the best thing on TV.

Oh my gosh!!! Jane deliberately baited Panzer on the Karen Cross show & got him killed by Red John!!! You can see him thinking it over before he did it! Panzer more-or-less said he would continue to kill many times & Jane looked straight at the camera thinking hard.
