Rebecca Wheatley - Monday 30 May

Sorry, this episode is not currently available to watch on Demand 5.

Find out why

Part 1: Hellos & Menu

Parts 2 & 3: Right To Free Criminal To Care For His Kids?
Was the court of appeal right to free a convicted burglar so he could look after his kids? Single father of five Wayne Bishop was jailed for eight months for burglary and dangerous driving. But he was freed after just six weeks. Why? Because judges said his children could suffer if he was kept in prison. Did the courts get it right? Should criminals be treated differently if they have kids to care for?

We’ll give that plenty of time before it’s over to Rebecca for the rest of the day’s headlines.

Part 4: Today’s Papers

Part 5: Pay Docs To Tell Patients They’re Fat?
From next year, GPs will receive extra cash for telling obese patients the truth about their weight problems. The government reckons it'll help deal with our obesity crisis if patients are confronted head-on with their weight problem. But will it? Surely these patients know they're too tubby? And why should docs be given extra cash just for doing their job?

Part 6: Naomi Campbell Cadbury Ad Racist?
Is this ad racist? It shows a chocolate bar, surrounded by diamonds, with the slogan: “move over Naomi, there’s a new diva in town.” Naomi Campbell reckons the ad describes her as chocolate, and says it’s insulting to black people. But makers Cadbury say the ad’s “a light-hearted take on the social pretensions” of the chocolate. What do you think? Are Cadbury guilty of racism? Or just culpable of printing a humorous ad that’s put Naomi’s beautifully formed nose out of joint?

Part 7: Showers: How Long To Get Clean?
How long do you need to stay in the shower to be properly clean? One Sunday Times Magazine reader wrote to “Dr” Ozzy Osbourne asking just that, saying he thinks five seconds is plenty. The guy’s family, however, reckon that’s nowhere near long enough. I have to say; I’m with the family- but what about you?

Oh yeah a man disguises himself as a woman and wears a skirt to court - cue howls of forced shock horror laughter. The story should have concentrated on the crime this guy was convicted of, not what he wore to court. Nobody pokes fun at the fact that bankers who have robbed billions of pounds from the British taxpayer persist in wearing a limp cloth phallus around their necks commonly known as a tie...cos, hey, that's *normal*, yeah? How facile.

What's the point in allowing people to post messages here, only to delete them within 5 minutes? What happened to freedom of speech?

It's only racist to those who think in terms of black & white. If like me you think about people (regardless of colour) then it's not. Sure I knew straight away it was Naomi Campbell but only because she is the biggest Diva on the planet.

Jenny Lewis Dear Mathew and Anne. I have listened very carefully to the comments this morning on the issue of Should doctors get paid for telling people they are fat. This is a very delicate subject and should be managed very carefully. This is a very emotive issue and should be dealt with a caring manner. Anne well done to you your comments were important. Hope to hear from you Jenny

i think Hardeep Singh Kholi is a great presenter - he's realy funny & not afraid to change his opinion based on audience calls.I don't agree that the choc bar advert is racist, if the title said'Move over Mariah' or move over 'madonna' we would still know who it was aimed at- its just making refernce to being a diva!!Good debate though, anne you are a bit serious but Hardeep is a dude!!

Why are only certain opinioans allowed to be aired? Rude...cutting people off. I know a few doctors and GPs of different ages and specialisms who earn good money - this fat debate is a waste of time, like the others on the show. Hardly an interactive debate. Again, presenters are very rude to the callers.
