Have Republicans really thought through the alternative? do they really think it will cost us less? Could anybody else do the job as well? The royal family are groomed from birth to do their duty and the Queen has done a far better job than any Politician could have done and it is the continuity that has been important for the country which would be lost if there were an election every 4 years.

In response to Elizabeth's comment, doesn't the Queen have to do whatever elected government commands it to? Since the monarchy is not elected then it wouldn't be right for them to have any direct influence on the future of our country.
