Find out why

Part 1: Hellos & Menu

Parts 2 & 3: Anthem Shame Of Team Gb
First up: Anthem shame of Team GB. The Daily Mail is outraged this morning after watching Scottish and Welsh footballers in team Great Britain including captain Ryan Giggs - refusing to sing the national anthem before their match against Senegal, presumably as some sort of nationalist protest. The paper wonders how they have the nerve to wear a team GB strip when they’ve got an attitude like that. What about you?

We’ll take plenty of your calls on that before it’s over to Jodie for the rest of today's headlines.

Part 4: Today’s Papers

Part 5: Do Primary School Teachers Need To Man Up?
After that: I want to know if you think primary school teachers need to man up - yesterday we heard how 90 kids under 11 are sent home every single day for violence which is often directed at teachers. Barnados says we’re too quick to expel these pupils and sending them home doesn’t solve anything. So are teachers too quick to impose such sanctions. Are they perhaps to wimpy to deal with the problem in class?

Part 6: Why Do Women Shave Their Legs?
Our final phone-in of the week I want your help solving a mystery that no one seems to know the answer to and that’s why do women shave their legs. You waste around 50 days of your life doing it. And for what? Give us a call

Part 7: Talking Telly With Kevin O’sullivan
And finally we'll be talking sun crisped Sunday mirror critic Kevin O’Sullivan.
REVIEWS: EASTENDERS LIVE, BERT AND DICKIE, SUPERSTAR FINAL, FRED WEST BORN TO KILL.
PREVIEWS: BIG BROTHER, THE MIDWIVES

I'm very confused. I didn't remember ever singing about "crushing the scots" and if it was in there I certainly would not sing that part. I have looked on wikipedia and from what it says on there yes there was a very short lived ALTERNATIVE verse created in 1745 by the army. BUT it is NOT our NATIONAL ANTHEM, It is NOT the ORIGINAL and is NOT what we SING!!! We only sing about our queen and I personally think we should all take pride in singing it. She brings in people from all over the world and she's a sweet little thing! Shame on u guys!

If the anthem is for the whole of Britain. Why do the English FA & English Rugby Union use it as their anthem? And i would also like to point out both of the above use the Union flag, not the flag of St. George

It seems that this show's (i.e.: Mathew) attitude when it comes to callers with different opinions is veering more and more towards plain intolerance. What is the point of someone calling when he/she is just going to be talked over and then dismissed. Maybe it's time for the presenter to follow his own advice and grow up? At the moment these actions are in danger of discrediting anything that the program is trying to put on the discussion table. Not a good direction to go.

shoddy ,ill concieved journalism , no mention of english sports men and women not singing gstq, also its anti scottish. by the logic of the arguements put forwad anyone who is a republican or aethiest cant represent the country in any sporting event . ludicrous

Matthew let himself down today cutting off callers making the point that GSTQ is seen as an English anthem since it is used by their rubgy and football teams. Plus for all we know the Welsh players are aetheists and/or republicans. Moreover, no mention of English players not singing. A weak segment.

Someone should tell Janet Ellis to listen to others, without butting in. She constantly tried to talk over the other panellists because they did not agree with her point of view. They had listened to her, without interuption. She should show them the same courtesy.

beth y'w e i fod yn brydeineg ? oh, sorry that was in Welsh.... the original british language. I asked what is it to be British?. I think there is a real ignorance by many English people "MATTHEW" who are frankly parochial, and ironically think their worldly. If you cant see and appreciate the modern Britain and the growth of the Celtic pride that has been re-born over the last few decades, then you would totally understand why the Welsh players could not sing an anthem of oppression.... includes a verse about crushing the Scots. Therefore maybe its time to get a new British anthem. One that reflects modern Britain a Britain that thousands of Scots, Irish and Welsh are risking their lives today in Afghanistan, aswell as their English comrades.

People need to understand that when Wales or Scotland play England. It's your Anthem that we hear, the English Anthem. We celts have our own language, our own Government, our own National flags, our own culture etc. The Red Dragon represents Wales. The Welsh National flag isn't in the Union Jack. Maybe we should sing Land of Hope and Glory. What is British anyway? Zimbabawe was British, so is it a transient thing?

Perhaps Ryan Giggs did not sing as he is embarrassed to be the only Welshman who can't sing.

It's an individual choice whether to sing the national anthem or not. It's like the bell ringing fiasco this morning - would people jump off Beachy Head if they were told to do it? I'm sick of being told on TV by highly paid media commentators how excited we should be - everything is EXTRAORDINARY, AMAZING, INCREDIBLE! So far the olympics has all been about money, celebrity, corporate greed and silly childish stunts. Please, let's get on with the actual sport and enjoy sporting talent, whatever country they're from.

The so called National Anthem in verse 3 sings about crushing the Scottish!!!! why should the Scottish be asked to support the singing this? change the anthem to support all of GB and we will sing it

Horrible song referring to "crushing scots". Similar to the Scottish anthem - nasty - referring to killing Englishmen. The song means nothing to many people, so why sing it if you don't believe in it? I enjoy your show and how it champions freedom of speech and the right to choose, until now when it appears you feel that people are obliged to sing ditty.

When Wales play England it is an ENGLISH Anthem. England should have their OWN Anthem. Then GSTQ might become more of a United Anthem.

Never seen Giggs sing the Welsh anthem so why the fuss. you want everything to be England at least you should be man enough to admit it.

I don't think they should be made to sing as it's not their national anthem and doesn't represent their identity. If they were choosing players from england, scotland and wales then a different anthem to suit all.

Firstly, I'd like to wish all the very best to every athlete or sports person from all the nations taking part. But, let me ask you a question. Would you sing an anthem that specifically names your nation being stamped into submission?? You say that your Britain depends on it's history to be where it is in the world. But expect at least two of it's partners to submit themselves to the larger partner. Wales already having been assimilated!! Personally, I either mute the TV, or walk out the room when that shameful anthem is played!!
