I don't agree with uniforms, I went to secondary school with a uniform and did the worst while in the other schools with no uniforms, I actually felt freer to do more. There is also an assumption wearing a uniform like wearing a shirt and tie makes you work better, actually it is a form of control. People wear shirt and ties even when they are stuck in an office in hot weather with no public coming in contact them, so really they could go in their pjamas and nobody would see them. There is a strange idea wearing a uniform or suit makes things get done better I cannot see the logic. I understand Policemen and Firemen do but there uniforms make them stand out in important times and also have practical functions. As for fast food etc, I do think eating a balances diet is key and as jeremy says there is nothing wrong with burgers and chips as long as you don't live off them, infact most problems are due to the fact with drive around so much so dont walk anywhere and also people generally now do less physical jobs most people are in offices yet they eat the same amount as they would doing physical work this is probably why many of those who traditionally come from physical labour backgrounds but have moved into office work have the worst weight problems as culturally they are used to full english breakfasts but have no means of burning it off, so in a sense people haven't modified their diet due to changing job habits, but also many people work too longer hours and hardly see their children and so many go for takeaway and easy options as they are short on time, many have no time unlike my mother to make time to cook meals from scratch. We can cook most meals from scratch and don't have to rely on a ready meals like cottage pie or spaghetti bolognese, we do eat burger king and mcdonalds etc but as treats, but we even do our own salads, accompanyments etc and drink plenty of water. Too many people take work home which interferes with things like cooking and child rearing whereas we go out and come home and stop thinking of work as my mom did in the 50's.

My son is due to attend Stantonbury in September, I am all for the new uniform as we were concerned about the possibility of bullying if he didn't have the 'right' clothes. I also feel that many jobs require a uniform and getting in the habit of wearing one is very useful.
