Churches must be allowed to make their own decisions. People can choose to be a church member or not according to that church's principles.

Please explain how it is possible for bi-sexuals to have a monogamous religious "marriage"?

  • Cathy

The definition of "Marriage" in the dictionary is between a Man and a Woman. Leave the Church to decide for itself. By giving one set of people equal rights it takes away somebody elses.

Tatchell's comments about the Falklands are typical rubbish. First offf they are over 250 miles from Argentina, nt exactly next door! Second, they were uninhabited when the British occupied them. Third they have been British since 1833. Finally the islanders do NOT want to be ruled by Argentina, a country that has been a military dictatorship in living memory. Shut up Tatchell!

Alcohol is a drug, just like tobacco...most of us don't smoke with our kids...so why should it be ok to drink alcohol with them? the responsibile thing to do is to teach kids about the dangers of alcohol, just like tobacco, then when they are consenting adults they can make good choices based on good education.

Did anyone listen to The Electric Flowers whom Lembit mentioned this morning? Just had a listen, AMAZING great songs with hints of 80s nostalgia. Will definitely keep my eyes on them.

you clearly don't believe in free speech, MrWright can refer to the Queen as "Queenie" and children as "sprogs", get annoyed with callers with an argument against his view, you can refuse this post or remove it but you must ask , why have the wrightstuff not won any tv awards, as for the best daytime show the format is good but Mathew wright as got to go-sooner the better.

Peter Tatchell was brilliant today. He came across as a gentle, warm, intelligent person who has obviously suffered much in the past due to his beliefs. It was illuminating and refreshing to listen to him.

Regarding the Queen's Jubilee concert, it seems to me that a lot of pop old fogies will be serenading a lot of royal old fogies - they should all enjoy it!

It seems to me that the ones who preach tolerance for what they believe in are in actual fact the most un-tolerant in society. Believe what we believe in or we will shout you down or call you a homophobe. Why should people who support gay marriage trump people's beliefs who don't? Moreover, it would help if you had a more balanced table of guests, was a left wing table who did not represent anyone who does not support it.

As an atheist it reall annoys me when "christians" put there own beliefs upon the bible, when its quite clear its anti gay. We do not have church and state seperation here, tax payer funded religious schools are allowed to discriminate against children from non religious backgrounds and brainwash children. As long as the church is part of the state, the state should have the power to make religious decisons.

Hi Cass, the thing is most people WILL enjoy the Queens Diamond jubilee, i have to say that i'm not a royalist and the Queens kids- all 4 of them clearly had-still have problems, but i am proud of our Queen and all she has done for the u.k. and the commonwealth, as far as old fogies go, do you include William, Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie, for the royals, J.L.S. and other gifted youngsters for the pop stars, old fogies indeed, "shut your eyes and see ". Hi frederick. I am getting on in years myself but when I said 'old fogies' I really meant a type of mindset. Those old popstars are the same ones trotted out for this type of thing and are not necessarily admired by all those of a similar age. I wonder how long it will be before Gary Barlow is "honoured" for his services.

All gay issues aside as people should be able to be joined in love anyway they want. Other issues that Peter bought up in his long and very boring speeches which were clapped for (!!!!) I agreed with very little he had to say. Wait until you have personally been affected by terrorism before commenting- I lost my Aunt in the London bombs. Abu Qatada is wanted for terrorism in another country and should be deported to be tried. Start living in the REAL WORLD, PETER! In the annoying stakes- you are up there with Yasmin Alibhai-Brown.

I can't believe these idiotic comments about Mirza's so called 'racist' comments. It's clear she was making a comic remark about steryotypes in the context of what Matthew had asked, and it was expressed as childhood impression of seeing drunk people in public back then - not as a personally held view about white people - the clue if you care to notice it, is she used the word 'were', not 'are' - i.e.: past tense. The reason the Matthew didn't 'challenge' this is it was so obviously humor, in fact he follows it with the question 'but seriously?' And in mind she had just joked about her parents being 'obviously heavy drinkers' (also a flippant remark) and then went on to joke about drunk people in hair-pieces running across dual carrigeways! Its bleedin obvious these comments are a collection of unreal parodies about the funny side of a serious issue - this is the job of a comic surely. Listening to it again (as a white person) its clearly humor, I think some people just need to get out more - maybe to a few comedy clubs!

Shazia Mirza, a Pakistani Muslim, is allowed to get away with saying "White people were scum", and the gutless white lefty Matthew Wright laughs. This is blatant anti-white racism, yet no fuss is made, while fuss about the unproven remarks of John Terry is forced down our throats in a wholesale anti-white guilt-fest. Double standards and a blatant case of anti-white racist mindbending by Channel 5.

I couldn't agree more with Peter above, some people have got totally the wrong end of this stick and only heard what they wanted to hear - not what Shazia Mirza actually said (and the way she said it). As for Dee's comment about Peter Tatchell; Well I don't like everything he says about deportation either - but I know he is right - we must live by the standards we aspire to, we can't cut and run when it doesn't suit us. I think that preacher is vile, but by abandoning our system of justice is never an option - look at the Birmingham Six. Peter may annoy with some of his expression, but the truth is often annoyingly inconveniet. In fact the three stages of truth are that first it will be ridiculed, second it violently opposed and lastly it is accepted as self-evident.

@ Peter- It was not a comedy show -nor was it a comic remark based on stereotype -she refereed to white people as scum (where is the creative comedy) Remember This is the show that had Jade Goody on grovelling for forgiveness while the usual suspects Mr Galloway & particularly Yasmin Alibhai-Brown put the boot in -Jade Goody calls an individual in the heat of an argument a poppadom !! -god forbid and even allows herself' to be associated with the term 'white trash ' on the show to gain forgiveness - -Shazia refers to a whole group based on white skin as 'scum' and nothing will happen -That is the point

@Wake up! - Perhaps its me, but was the question not put to her as (and I have listened again just now); “...when you’re growing up in a muslim family, in a country surrounded by people, lets face it, who like a drink and do it very publically, what was your view of alcohol as a teenager… did you want to try it or were you so repulsed by what you saw around you...” Her reply to this is couched as a 'thought' she had, as a teen, based on what she saw around her (and it is unmistakably worded in 'past tense') and as I mentioned before, is in the same flippant context as other 'farcical' remarks she made before and after, one aimed at her own parents. I think you have to be slightly paranoid, and harboring some measure of latent anger, to take that in an offensive way. You are correct of course that it is not a comedy show, but I have never seen any panel show with comics on, where they are expected or required to leave their comedy outside the studio, have you? Anyway, I've had my say and this is getting boring now - I guess there's nowt queer as folk.

Whatever apologists may say on her behalf there is a clear case of double standards here. Could you ever imagine a white person being allowed to make a "joke" of this sort about blacks or Asians - without, that is, being vilified in the press or hauled before the courts?

RE; warren Churches must be allowed to make their own decisions. People can choose to be a church member or not according to that church's principles I agree with you on a certain level Church`s should be allowed to choose weather they offer same sex marriages or not With that said however this new law is about making Civil samesex marriages legal in a register office and that will made compulsory it will not force Church`s to offer them. Remember we are largely in a secular country now and we have secular laws people of faith cannot dictate to secular legislation Faith is no longer an excuse for bigotry in the eyes of the law and rightly so I was raised Catholic myself yet I support equality for everyone and I support same sex marriage. I know a few Gay and bisexual people they are normal people like you and I and they deserve this final push for equality I have no Idea what your views are on this issue but mine are clear I am against homophobia and racism and all bigotry and i`m greatful to be in the majority with this one and not the minority!
