Matthew started his career as a showbiz columnist for The Sun and the Daily Mirror.
He’s nearing his 2000th appearance as host of Britain’s brightest daytime show and in that time he’s grilled Tony Blair, taken calls from Katie Price, and dealt with streakers, BNP supporters and militant goldfish police.
A fanatical fly-fisherman and fan of classic British motorbikes, Matthew’s also a music fiend, never shying away from sharing his love for '70s prog rock superstars Gong and, of course, Hawkwind. Indeed, his single with the band Spirit of the Age tickled the lower reaches of the charts in 2004.
But contrary to whatever Wikipedia may say, he wasn’t an extra in Enid Blyton’s Noddy, nor was he rejected for the role of gay Simon in EastEnders for being 'too light on his feet.
