An excellent and moving series. One only comes near to understanding the suffering and loss these lads experienced after having visited the Commonwealth War Graves and battlefields of the Somme and Ypres. The series was only de-valued by the re-enactments that included a very well fed and continually smiling actor pretending to be a WW1 soldier. Please in future keep to actual footage-there is real drama in real people!

A very movingly made programme. Compelling, historical record of times we now cannot imagine. Should be an essential part of modern history teaching in schools. Hopefully it will be released for that purpose.
