The Wildlife Aid Foundation is dedicated to the rescue, care and rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned wild animals. Established in 1980, our veterinary wildlife hospital deals with more than 20,000 wildlife emergencies every year.

All wild animals that come into our care at our Surrey-based wildlife hospital are treated and rehabilitated completely free of charge. Our aim is to return every animal capable of survival back to its natural environment.

We treat every species of British wildlife and are on call 24/7, 365 days a year in all weather. During winter, we annually look after over 200 hedgehogs which are too small to survive hibernation. When released in the springtime, these help boost numbers of this iconic British animal, which has seen a drastic population decline in the last decades.

In cases where injury has been deliberately inflicted by man, we make sure to notify surrounding wildlife shelters and authorities to the possibility of a person or people deliberately harming animals. Some cases are pursued by the authorities and end in prosecution.

What We Do

When a wild animal is in trouble we will do everything we can to help. Often this will mean rescuing the animal in stressful and potentially dangerous situations. Whether 30ft up in a tree, deep in a storm drain or in the middle of a sewage treatment tank we are always ready and willing to get involved.

Once an animal arrives at our wildlife hospital it will be examined and treated by our expert team of wildlife vets and vet nurses. Once back on the road to recovery we ensure a careful programme of rehabilitation so that each creature in our care is fully fit and healthy and ready to live back in the wild.

The best bit of the job! When our animals are ready for release we will free them in a suitable area. Often this is the same place from where they were rescued, but it is always an area of safety that will support their species and offer them the best possible chance of survival.

As part of our commitment to educating and informing the public about the importance of our natural heritage, the Wildlife Aid Foundation actively takes its message into the community by giving talks and presentations to schools, companies, groups and clubs around the country.
